Title: LlL ABNER Year : 1940 (sound)

Cast: Granville Owen, Martha O'Driscoll, Buster Keaton, Edgar Kennedy, Lucien Littlefield, AI St.
John, Doodles Weaver.
Synopsis: A film tightly based upon the famous AI Capp cartoon strip. It is a wild comedy romp from
start to end as we meet, Lil Abner, Mammy and Pappy Yokum, Earthquake McGoon, Daisey
Mae, Little Joe, Preacher Sam and all of the other characters.
Lil Abner is told that he has 24 hours to live so he decides that it is finally OK to
tell Daisey Mae that he loves her and will marry her. Unfortunately the prognosis is wrong and
Lil Abner has also promised another girl the same thing. It all winds up with the two girls after
him in the annual Sadie Hawkin's Day chase.
This film, as funny and well done as it is, would not be of significent importance if it
was not for the fact that the casting director ~ade a major and historic decision to fill all
comedy rolls with great and near·great silent screen comedy stars. This raises the whole film to
both the classic and high-camp level it enjoys today.
It is a relatively short film, running just under one hour, which makes it extremely
suitable for showing as a second feature on a double bill.
