1 Introduction

In this chapter, there will be a discussion on the statement of problem, the research objectives,
research questions, research context and significance of the study. Therefore, we are also focusing on
the ways to overcome the problems of student from Teaching English as Second Language (henceforth,
TESL) program on their reluctance to speak in English among themselves. This chapter is more on
discover the problems that being occur among TESL program due to their lack of communication in
English due to their reluctances of using English in their discussion. Therefore we will find intervention
for the TESL students that help them to improve their speaking skills and also helps them to boost their
confidence in speaking more in English. Based on the questionnaire given, we will be focused more on
how their performance in speaking skills based on the task type given, the topic of interest, interlocutor
involved in the discussion and last but not least the position of seating when having discussion on the
class. In the next chapter, we will be focusing more on the statement of problem of this research. (
state the problem after research)

1.0 Statement of Problem

Language is human communication method that was used in writing or speaking considering the
use of the words in structural and conventional ways. It is a medium where human able to communicate
through the use of speaking skills which usually used in our daily basis. However in this context, the aim
of this research is to identify why the TESL students are reluctance to speak in English among themselves
when it comes to their discussion in their class. The research is also conducted to identify the factor
that influenced their reluctances to speak in English among the TESL students and we try to overcome
the issue. Therefore, we want to discover doest their speaking level does affect their reason to be
reluctance to speak in English among themselves and do other reason such as anxiety and environment
plays big roles on the results. These statement is what are we will be conducting in our research and we
need to build an interversion in order to help them to get better with their communication in English
which is the factor that affect them to speak well in English among themselves.
