selected from the daily production, find the following:
a. Exactly 2 will be defective.
b. At most 2 defective.
c. At least 4 defective.
d. Calculate the mean and the standard deviation.

2. During a laboratory experiment, the average number of radioactive particles passing through a counter
in 1 millisecond is 4. What is the probability that 6 particles enter the counter in a given millisecond?

3. In a port, 10 oil tankers in average arrive each day. The port can handle only 15 tankers per day. What is
the probability that tankers are not allowed to enter the port on a given day?

4. Customers arrive in a certain shop at a mean rate of 20 per hour. What is the probability that the
shopkeeper will have to wait more than 5 minutes for the arrival of the first customer?

5. A collection of 100 fuses is inspected by the following procedure: Five fuses are chosen at random and
tested; if all five blow at the correct amperage, the lot is accepted. Suppose that the collection contains
20 defective fuses. If X is a random variable equal to the number of defective fuses in the sample of 5,
what is the probability of accepting the collection.

6. There is a 0.75 chance of all students being present in stat class on any given day. When all students
show up, the teacher has promised not to assign homework.
