Part Two Technical Contract-1
GAPLESS FULL FORCED CONVECTION FLAT
TEMPERING FURNACE
MODEL NO. AG-1H40 (3-19mm)

1. Description of the Equipment

1.1 Brief Introduction

AG-series Gapless Forced Convection Glass Tempering Furnace (Northglass 5th
generation forced convection technology with own patents) has been developed to meet
the customer’s growing demand for processing of more efficient low-E glass, improving
product quality and reducing energy consumption. AG-series furnace has integrated the
advantages of Northglass four former convection technologies and brings the main
benefits of superior product quality, higher efficiency and easier processing control to
customers. The furnace consists in detail with the conveyors for the loading table,
heating section with forced convection system (top & bottom with fun heating convection
system), flat quench/cooling section (A-1H40) and unloading table. To the supply
belongs the air ducts as well as the control system of the machine.

1.2 Loading Table

The conveyor of the loading table is composed of rubber-covered steel rollers. Each
roller is driven by a round belt pulley on the drive side, except the first roller which is non
driven. The loading table is equipped with a pneumatic actuated castor balls table with
vertical movement, allowing the easy positioning of the glass. When the glass is put onto
the rollers, the glass will be conveyed automatically to the entrance of the furnace where
it will be in ready-to-enter-furnace position and the rollers stop moving. It will send the
glass into the furnace once the computer control system gives enter instruction. The
loading table is equipped with several lateral non driven rollers which are used to load
large sheets laterally from both sides of the loading table.

Key Improvements
1.2.1 Dual Photoelectric Sensors Glass Length Measurement Technology

Tel: +86-21-57858651, Fax: +86-21-57852233, E-mail: max@northglass.com

—5—
This patented technology well ensure the accuracy of glass length measurement, thus
avoid the dangerous glass collision inside the heating chamber which is usually caused
by inaccurate glass length measurement due to glass tail warping by heating.

1.3 Heating Section with full forced convection heating system

The structure of the heating section is of a double-layer box type covered with
thermo-insulating material. Inside the section there is a conveyor system with high
temperature resistant ceramic rollers, which are manufactured by VESUVIUS (French
brand) or CERADYNE (American brand). The heating elements are installed on the
upper layer and lower layer of this section. The heating element is of an integrated part
with spiral type resistance erected on ceramic part and can be easily replaced. Each
heating zone is controlled by an independent thermo couple and controlled by
independent PID loop. Both conveyor rollers of the loading table and heating section
rollers are moving synchronal at forwarding the batch into the heating section. The front
door closes after entering the glass batch into the heating chamber. The number of
strokes is calculated by the control system automatically, so that the glass will be heated
evenly. The upper section can be lifted up for purpose of maintenance.

The forced convection heating system inside both top and bottom heating chamber parts
is suitable for tempering float glass and coated glass (including all temperable hard &
soft coated glass) with high product quality. The high temperature convection fans are
made of aerospace material (super alloy) with special welding process. Its well-sealing
performance and effective thermo bridge blocking technology assure the long service life
and stability to the convection fans, which provide the stable and efficient engines to the
forced convection heating system. With well designed radiation & convection heating
system, this furnace can supply the best processing specifications (Note: with limited
production conditions): heating speed≥30s/mm, overall bow≤0.8mm/1000mm, local
bow≤0.1/300mm, fully satisfy the processing demand of super soft coated Low-E glass
and other high quality glass.

In case of a main power breakdown, the glass will be evacuated by using of UPS

—6—
emergency driving system for the furnace conveyor; or additionally with the help of a
crank, by which the rollers are to be moved manually. The convection blowers must be
powered by emergency driving system at a stand-by rotation.

Key Improvements
1.3.1 Intelligent Temperature Control Module

The intelligent temperature control module developed by Northglass has combined

Northglass’s rich glass tempering process experience with mature temperature control
technology supported by a professional foreign partner. The temperature acquisition,
calculation and output control can be directly executed by this module, no need to pass
via PLC. This bring some obvious advantages to the furnace, such as much simple
wiring, better anti-interference performance and faster (within 0.25s) reaction speed of
temperature adjustment.
1.3.2 More accurate heating zones

The heating zones are divided by 120mm per each along crosswise inside the heating
chamber, which effectively overcome the problem of glass edge overheating.

Tel: +86-21-57858651, Fax: +86-21-57852233, E-mail: max@northglass.com

—7—
1.3.3 Advanced gapless arrangement of radiation & convection heating

Both heating & convection units are arranged to form an inclination angle with the
longitudinal direction (glass moving direction), thus a plug-in type complementation is
formed among the heating & convection zones to stabilize the different heating between
the glass center and edges, thereby improve the uniformity of glass heating and further
alleviate the iridescence (leopard spots) of tempered glass products
1.3.4 Simple & efficient forced convection system, easy for future maintenance and
repair.

The forced convection distribution system is made of heat-resistant steel pipe for reason
of smaller pressure loss and stronger resistance against deformation.
1.3.5 Northglass high temperature convection fans are made of aerospace material
(superalloy) with special welding process. Its well-sealing performance and effective
thermo bridge blocking technology assure the long service life and stability to the
convection fans, which provide the stable and efficient engines to the forced convection
heating system.
1.3.6 More even convection air backflow with open pipes structure

Tel: +86-21-57858651, Fax: +86-21-57852233, E-mail: max@northglass.com

—8—
A-series forced convection system is using open structure composed of heat-resistant
steel pipes, which bring an ideal result of even air backflow, further avoid the overheating
upon glass edges and the thermal stress spots caused by uneven hot air backflow.

1.4 Flat Quenching/Cooling Section

The blast heads are divided into upper and lower parts. The nozzles are made of
aluminum alloy, and the distance between glass and upper/lower nozzles can be
adjusted separately according to the quenching demand for different kinds of glass. In
among the blast heads, there are a lot of rollers conveying the glass sheets forwarding.
When the glass sheets come out the furnace, the rollers here will move synchronously
with the rollers in the furnace, to transit the glass sheet into quenching section. Then, the
glass sheets will move back and forth with the rollers, to keep evenly quenching. While
the glass is oscillating in the quenching section, the quenching parts are oscillating in
transversal direction, the main purpose is to decrease the glass stress and evenly
quench in this section. Meanwhile, the blower will immediately blow air onto the surface
of the glass through air ducts. The air pressure and flux is decided by blower speed,
which is controlled automatically by the control system. The rollers are spirally rolled with
Kevlar bands.

Key Improvements
1.4.1 Convenient Drive Belt Replacement

Tel: +86-21-57858651, Fax: +86-21-57852233, E-mail: max@northglass.com

—9—
With this patented design, the drive belt can be replaced without conveyor stop, much
easier and quicker than before.
1.4.2 New Air Nozzle Structure

1.5 Unloading Table

The unloading table is of the same design as the loading table. When the glass is
transported to the end of the conveyor, the glass will be stopped by an optical sensor
and the glass can be taken away.

1.6 Ventilator station and air ducts

The fan station consists of motored ventilators of high performance centrifugal type and
an air duct system. The fans are statically and dynamically balanced. Each drive motor is
equipped with an inverter which ensures an economical operation of the machine. The
butterfly valve opens and closes during each cycle. The system is actuated by a
pneumatic piston and automatically controlled by the computer. The air ducts connect
the fan station with the nozzle-blocks. They feature supple cuffs to prevent the
transmission of vibrations and valves to balance the pressure of the upper and lower
nozzle-blocks. The regulation of the valves is controlled by the computer. The air ducts
from the ventilators to the air distribution box belongs to Seller’s supply.

Key Improvements
1.6.1 New PVC Air Duct

Tel: +86-21-57858651, Fax: +86-21-57852233, E-mail: max@northglass.com

—10—
This new PVC air duct is completely sealed to prevent air leakage, the air intake is more
stable and efficient. The tensile strength has been increased 3 times than canvas duct
before, much more durable.

1.7 Control System

The control system includes the followings:
 Process parameters storage and re-call, such as glass thickness, glass size,
glass color, glass type and maybe different sources of float glass, comprising the
furnace regulation and etc. Whenever producing a new order for different
thickness, size, color, type, source and etc., the operator just enter the process
parameters, and the system will memorize these process data with no limitation.
Next time, when having re-order or the same order, the dates can re-called and
the machine will automatically use the stored processing data.
 Controller for roller driving system.
 Controller for the temperature control.
 Controller for quenching control.
 The abnormity alarming system would warn while trouble happens to indicate how
to solve this trouble.
 The furnace has auto pre-heating function. After the shift of a day, the furnace will
be in the stand-by status, less than 15% of heating power will be consumed, while
the ceramic rollers will be still running. And ahead of working time on the next
morning, the system will start up to heat up to the working temperature until the
operator begins the production.
 The main industrial control computer is installed with the terminals at the control
desk. Display screen can provide users with analog process status: main screen,
process parameter screen, operation and maintenance screen and system
parameter screen. The system has reading and writing function for process
parameters, automatic control, unit equipment operation and test as well as
self-diagnosis, as well as display alarming function.
a) Main drive control system is accomplished by the inverter system which is

—11—
controlled by computer. On-line of each part is controlled by computer.
b) The main screen is the page displayed on the monitor during normal production.
The contents displayed directly in German language are the statuses of glass in
the furnace, driving system, temperature at each zone, time of heating, quench
and cooling, actual pressure, set point of fans and length sum of pieces of glass in
the furnace. This screen is for the operator's notice. The process parameter
screen records the designed moving distance of loading table when the pedal
switch is actuated by the operator, temperature set point of upper and lower
furnace, pressure set point of fans, quench time and cooling time set point. These
screens are frequently used for normal operation. Maintenance screen is only
used by maintenance people to test every part of the system. System parameter
screen is used only by the manufacturer, in order to test the machine.

Key Improvements
1.7.1 New User Interface

With new user interface, all related critical parameters (for example heating power,
temperature, frequency, air pressure, blowing distance, etc.) will be displayed in a dialog
box when you point the mouse on anywhere (heating chamber, convection fans, quench
section, etc.) of furnace pattern shown on monitor. This will bring you the convenience
upon not only accurate production control but also easier machine detection,
maintenance and repair.

Part Three Technical Contract-2
GAPLESS FULL FORCED CONVECTION FLAT
TEMPERING FURNACE
MODEL NO. AG-1R70 (4-19mm)

1. Description of the Equipment

1.2 Brief Introduction

AG-series Gapless Forced Convection Glass Tempering Furnace (Northglass 5th
generation forced convection technology with own patents) has been developed to meet
the customer’s growing demand for processing of more efficient low-E glass, improving
product quality and reducing energy consumption. AG-series furnace has integrated the
advantages of Northglass four former convection technologies and brings the main
benefits of superior product quality, higher efficiency and easier processing control to
customers. The furnace consists in detail with the conveyors for the loading table,
heating section with forced convection system (top & bottom with fun heating convection
system), flat quench/cooling section (A-1R70) and unloading table.

—23—

—24—
emergency driving system for the furnace conveyor; or additionally with the help of a
crank, by which the rollers are to be moved manually.

—25—
1.3.7 Advanced gapless arrangement of radiation & convection heating

Both heating & convection units are arranged to form an inclination angle with the
longitudinal direction (glass moving direction), thus a plug-in type complementation is
formed among the heating & convection zones to stabilize the different heating between
the glass center and edges, thereby improve the uniformity of glass heating and further
alleviate the iridescence (leopard spots) of tempered glass products
1.3.8 Simple & efficient forced convection system, easy for future maintenance and
repair.

The forced convection distribution system is made of heat-resistant steel pipe for reason
of smaller pressure loss and stronger resistance against deformation.
1.3.9 Northglass high temperature convection fans are made of aerospace material
(superalloy) with special welding process. Its well-sealing performance and effective
thermo bridge blocking technology assure the long service life and stability to the
convection fans, which provide the stable and efficient engines to the forced convection
heating system.
1.3.10 More even convection air backflow with open pipes structure

Tel: +86-21-57858651, Fax: +86-21-57852233, E-mail: max@northglass.com

—26—

—27—

—28—

—29—
controlled by computer. On-line of each part is controlled by computer.
c) The main screen is the page displayed on the monitor during normal production.
