EKC 216 PROCESS HEAT TRANSFER

WORK IN PAIR 2 (26 FEB 2018)

1. The wall surface temperature is 780 K one side & 300 K at the other side of
composite wall shown below. Assume one-dimensional heat flow, calculate the (i)
heat transfer through the composite wall sketched, (ii) temperature at the
interface between A & B, (iii) temperature at the interface between C & D.

2. A certain building wall with a cross sectional area of 6.5 m2 consists of 4.4 cm of
concrete [k = 1.3 W/m.K], 8.2 cm of fiberglass insulation [k = 0.032 W/m. K] & 2.6
cm of gypsum board [k = 0.04 W/m. K]. The inside & outside convection
coefficients are 13.9 and 28.1 W/m2.K, respectively. The inside temperature is 28°C
& outside air temperature is -2.5°C. Calculate the (i) overall HT coefficient for the
wall, (ii) total R value, (iii) heat loss & (iv) temperature at the interface between
fiberglass and gypsum board.
