Syllabus Outcome (Code and descriptor): MAe-4NA - Counts to 30, and orders, reads and represents numbers 1 - 20 Objective / Learning Intention: As a result of this lesson the students will be able to: Subtract randomly generated single digit numbers from larger numbers Background and / or Prior Knowledge (Significance): Knowledge of numbers 1 - 20 (In some cases 1 - 10). Which Aids students in their knowledge of how the numbers are related ordinally. Split students into groups: Have worksheets ready to Different levelled Formative: Observation go. worksheets for students Group 1 - Countback activity of varying levels. Students will be given a worksheet relevant to their numeracy level. The students must roll a die and count back that number from the number provided in each box. Group 2 - Crossing out activity The students will be given a sheet with apples on it. With each apple the students must cross out a dot and write down the number of dots left on the apple.
Group 3 - Counter activity (concrete materials, using counters)
The students will be given counters, the amount of which will be determined by their numeracy knowledge. they will write down the number of counters they have. The the students will then roll a dice and write down the number that they rolled. They will then take that number way from the counters and write down the number of counters that are left.
Each activity will run for 10 - 12 Minutes.
