Dearest Asia-Pacific SCOPHeroes,

It is with great pleasure that I write you this short message, before your Asia Pacific Regional Meeting.
Regional Meetings are an incredible opportunity to meet motivated people from all over your Region, and
sometimes even from the outside, to share ideas, to learn new skills, and to fill up with passion and energy to
do the work we do. I truly hope you can take the SCOPH sessions as a unique occasion to develop plans,
learn about Public Health, and open collaborations with other SCOPHeroes.

I invite each and every one of you to attend the meeting with an open mind, a friendly attitude, empathy and
generosity, and a will to take something precious home with you at the end of the meeting. Do not attend
thinking that someone else has to teach you things, because you are part of your own learning process!
Everyone is responsible for making this an unforgettable and productive meeting, with great outcomes and
lasting friendships.

I have heard many incredible things about delegates from the Asia-Pacific, your reputation precedes you! I
truly wish I could attend your meeting and discover all of the great Activities you do! Unluckily, due to the
meeting being moved to September, university obligations prevent me from attending. I cannot wait to hear
about the outcomes of your sessions, and see some pictures!

I therefore wish you all a great experience, and hope that the collaborations that are born in this Regional
Meeting will be lasting and meaningful ones.

Asia-Pacific,
I am extremely glad to be addressing you in this
Survival Kit of the APRM. It has been a year and we
have seen Public Health develop and evolve in our
Region for this term . Asia Pacific is an interesting
and diverse region not always making it the easiest
for work in Public Health. Over the years the Public
Health narratives and facts have been evolving and
changing, and different influences and factors are
today much more dynamic. Today we also have
more potent and effective tools to help us with our
mission to make our countries, Region and world a
healthier place.
We, medical students who are Public Health
enthusiasts are an asset to the field of medicine. We
are also probably one of the most valuable, as not
only do we add diversity and Human Resources
but also if trained well, we are the future leaders of
health in years to come. Thus it is our responsibility
to not only serve the society but serve ourselves
too, to grow as people and leaders. We have to
be sensitive and analyse the stakeholders and key
knowledge so we in the future, whether working in
Public Health or not are able to look at the bigger
picture, not necessarily sticking to the conventional
approaches but bringing in new approaches,
bringing in communities to be a part of the discussion
and work together with them for a healthier world.
Our Region has diverse needs and I have with all of
you tried to make this APRM utmost representative
of the NMOs’ needs and wishes. I have had the
honour to serve you for this term and cannot thank
you enough for this year, for your passions and for
all your work.

Our Job
The SCOPH-Director
The Director on Public Health (SCOPH-Director) is
responsible for the development of SCOPH through
activities that are in line with its plan of action,
vision and mission. He/she annually assesses the
needs of SCOPH around the world and provides
support accordingly. The SCOPH-D is available
to support public health events and provide
students involved in SCOPH with relevant manuals,
documents for all SCOPH activities. Alongside with
Standing Committees Directors, he/she oversees
the submission of the IFMSA Programs and their
implementation. Finally he/she organizes SCOPH
sessions in IFMSA Meetings, together with the
SCOPH International team.
The Liaison Officer for Public Health Issues
The Liaison Officer for Public Health issues (LPH) is
the Official who represents IFMSA within the world
of the Public Health Organizations (NGOs and also
Governmental Organizations). The LPH connects
IFMSA with its Public Health external partners,
also with other organizations that can potentially
be a support and be helpful for the activities of
IFMSA Local Committees and National Member
Organizations. The LPH works to secure sustainability
by providing IFMSA with relevant information
about Public Health partner organizations and by
facilitating and initiating contacts.
The General Assistant
The main tasks of General Assistant (GA) are to
support circulation of information in the Standing
Committee, help the IT with development of the
e-learning, update the information relevant to
SCOPH in the media and also execute the general
tasks of the team, taking minutes, editing articles,
etc.. The General Assistant also helps the SCOPH-D
in preparing for the General Assemblies’ SCOPH
sessions.
The Regional Assistants
The main tasks of the Regional Assistants are to
keep in touch with the national SCOPH-groups in
their region, provide SCOPH-members of the region
with personal and professional support, encourage
and assist the development of SCOPH in the region,
establish priorities and work on the development of
a regional plan of action.

Mental Health of Medical Students

We, the medical students are a vulnerable group for
mental illnesses. While taking care of others we need
to remember and be skilled enough to take care of
ourselves. How should the medical institutes support us
medical students in the prevention and support of mental
illnesses? What skills do we need to prevent things like
anxiety, depression and burnout?

Sexuality of the Elderly
SCORA-SCOPH
While we talk about the public health aspect of ageing,
let’s talk about the less addressed and stigmatised topic
of sexuality in the elderly. Various aspects of ageing need
to considered and we need to take a more integrated
and holistic approach towards catering to the ageing
population.

• Anything ORANGE (t-shirt, scarf, dress, pants, hats or
anything you can wear) for the official picture on the last
day of the SC Session i.e. 20th Sept.
• Remember to bring materials flyers, posters, pictures,
pamphlets of any SCOPH activities done in your NMO
for the experience wall.
• Small gifts and hugs to exchange with your fellow
participants/the SCOPH family.
• Don’t forget your orange power and enthusiasm,
SCOPH sessions will be one of the most amazing,
unforgettable sessions. Let’s have fun while training to
make the world a healthier place.
