Maths Lesson 3 Notes

Subject/Lesson: Maths – pre-test (adding 3-digit numbers, identifying g/kg) revision test
(time, fractions, grids, 3-D shapes)
Objective: Can add 3-digit numbers, identify g/kg, tell time to to the nearest 5min, identify
fractions of a collection, use and read grid references, draw 3-D shapes

Subject Students experiencing difficulty/common mistakes

Adding 3-digit All students had some ideas and a foundational understanding, although
numbers slightly limited.
Time Lily, Ella, Ava, Emily, Alyssa, Anara
It was common for children to confuse the hands. 2 students were
completely unsure.
Fractions Riley, Isaiah, Hudson
Grids (no problems present)
3-D shapes Almost all children experience difficulty drawing a cylinder (drawing
extra lines joining the two circular ends.
g/kg No children knew how many grams were in a kilogram.
Only one student suggested that you measure kilograms with scales
(Scarlett).
Concluding notes:
Practice of time may be valuable for much of the class, particularly those listed. Practice
of drawing more complex 3-D shapes may also be valuable. Kg/g should be introduced
from the very beginning. Some children may require re-teaching of fractions (see list
above).
