Welcome to the Religious Education Congress!

Each one of us is "called by name." We are called by

name into the gift of life, into a family and community but especially
we are called by name into the community of faith - the Church.

During these days of the Congress we gather as a people

responding to His call. We recognize that we are called by name into
a unique relationship of love. We believe that in coming together we
have the opportunity to grow into a deeper awareness of the intimacy
of God's love for us, and ours for one another. We experience the
support of our brothers and sisters in the Lord and thus come to a
deeper appreciation of who we are in His name.

These days are much more than an educational opportunity.

They are a prayerful pause in the hectic pace of our lives. May all
of you rejoice in their gift, and may the Holy Spirit refresh you in
truth, peace, and joy.

GENERAL NOTE:

The musia seleations for the Closing Liturgy

of our 1979 Congress were guided by the meaning
of the Saripturoe readings assigned for the Fifth
Sunday of the Year (B). The Gospel reading and
the passage from the Book of Job have as their
ahief theme: whatever the human misery, the
depth of our despair, Jesus Christ aomes as Good
News to our world. In response to this Word from
our Father, we must open our hearts to his healing
influenae and aarry this Word to our sisters and
brothers.

ENTRANCE HYMN

This famous hymn, in a new translation, is a para-

phrase of Psalm 46. The psalm aelebrates God's
far-surpassing power over all in the world that
might frighten us. God's might comes to unique
foaus in our Lord Jesus Christ. Using this hymn
that is espeaially dear to our brothers and sis-
ters in other Christian communities, errrphasizes
the conviation we all share: Jesus is Lord, even
in our nuclear age.

FIRST REAVING: Job 7:1-4,6-7

The reading from Job, proclaimed in Spanish and

English verse by verse, allows us to contemplate
the depths of human despair. Jesus came in
history and comes in our Eucharistic liturgy to
lead us to the heights of Christian hope, expressed
so well in our Lady's Canticle, the Magnifiaat, to
be sung at Corrununion time.
