CGI FEDERAL

SHE CAN DO IT ALL!

ABOUT CGI
FAIRFAX, VA – May 25, 2018 – Tracey Kennedy accepted a Senior
CGI was founded in 1976 by Systems Analyst position at CGI Federal in 2004. In this position, she
Serge Godin and André acquired an impressive array of skills that exemplify her
Imbeau. It is based in achievements. Her primary responsibility for the past 13 years has
Montreal, Canada, but has been to support four internet applications created for The Center for
offices worldwide. It is an Medicare Medicaid Services. These applications relate to each other
information technology (IT) in that they all support End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). This suite
company that deals with includes an application for collecting ESRD patient clinical data, an
consulting, systems application to calculate a patient’s coverage period, an application to
integration, outsourcing, and report and rate ESRD facilities, and a new application that CGI is
solutions. They produce currently building to combine all the legacy apps into one. Kennedy’s
information technology and work consists of analyzing potential application defects. The skills
services to federal required to do this effectively include knowing the ways to use these
government agencies. applications that make the business more efficient, knowing the data
that the applications capture, and being able examine the code to
determine if there is a defect. In most companies, there are separate
people who know each aspect of an application. The different aspects
include knowing what the client wants, documenting want the clients
wants, developing the solution to what the client wants, and testing it
to make sure it is perfect before giving it to the client. Kennedy works
with a team to solve issues that come up as the applications are used
and issues are found. Her contribution to her team is that with her
background, she can understand and articulate all aspects of software
development.
Kennedy did not study to be in the IT field, even though her
colleagues often assume that she did. She graduated from the
University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Medieval
History and French Language. As Kennedy always says right after,
“Go ahead and laugh now.” She started her career at The World Bank
as a Bilingual French Secretary. Desktop computers were first
introduced to all the secretaries of the world in 1989 and Tracey
Kennedy was one of them. The company provided training for all the
secretaries. Kennedy took to it and quickly became the on-site help
Tracey Kennedy in her office at CGI
Federal, in Fairfax, VA. person. Because of this, she got a job outside the bank as a trainer
for computer applications. She kept having jobs where she would
learn more and more about different computer platforms and the
applications used on those platforms. At that time, there were three
platforms; Doss, Apple OS, and Unix. Kennedy had to learn all three very quickly because that’s what her
company taught. Between being introduced to the first desktop computers and landing a job at CGI, she had
acquired a numerous amount of skills that made her the perfect match at CGI Federal as a Senior Systems
Analyst.
Kennedy has been working at CGI for 13 years now. When asked why she has stayed, she replies “In
the IT field, it’s always changing. You must learn and continue to learn, or you will not be successful in the
field.” Kennedy likes learning new things, experiencing new challenges all the time, and interfacing with
colleagues and clients. She is appreciated and receives plenty of accolades for what she does. Kennedy feels
that CGI is a company always putting member’s interests into the mix and strives to provide opportunity for
growth for its members. According to glassdoor.com, CGI’s mission is “To create an environment in which we
enjoy working together and, as owners, contribute to building a business we can be proud of. Our mission is to
help clients succeed through outstanding quality, competence and objectivity, providing thought leadership and
delivering the best services and solutions to fully satisfy client objectives in information technology, business
processes, and management.”
It almost seems as if the job chose Kennedy, not the other way around. Inside the multi-lingual World
Bank, she found new technology that inspired her to follow that career path. Who knew that a degree in
Medieval History and French Language would lead her to a challenging, prosperous career in the IT field. From
my point of view, it seems like she has done well and she has obviously made the right decisions, especially
for a woman in the IT field.

“In the IT field, it’s always changing. You must learn and continue to
learn, or you will not be successful in the field.” – Tracey Kennedy

CGI IN THE EUROPEAN CENTRAL MARKET DEBATE

WASHINGTON - May 17-18, 2018, CGI Federal will attend the European Central Market Debate in London,
UK, for the seventh time. Executives come together to share technological trends and application approaches
for the energy market, which is advancing at a fast pace.
This event allows people who share a common goal, to come together from different parts of Europe and
discuss developing ideas about the energy market. Which involves networking, comparing ideas,
brainstorming, and more. It’s a contemporary event that allows these decision makers to stay current and be
able to create different methods for the energy market. This year’s theme is “Unlocking flexibility through
market facilitation.”

According to cgi.com, some questions that will be included in the debate will include:

1. What are the value drivers for flexibility in the different countries across Europe?

2. What incentives can be offered to scale up variable renewable power and which roles are required?

3. What is the role of a data hub?

4. Who is going to supervise the flexibility in the grid? Is an arbiter needed? What is the role of the neutral
market facilitator?

Last year, the debate was held Lisbon, Portugal. The topic was “The growing need for seamless information
exchange between TSOs and DSOs.” There was no simple answer to achieve this, but bringing those experts
together last year helped them toward their goal of a beneficial energy market. Last year was successful, so
CGI hopes this year it will be the same, if not more.

Check out the website after the event to read the 2018 Edition Debrief Report about what happened during the
event. CGI’s Twitter pages are also a great way to stay updated for the event and other news involving CGI.
CGI is excited to participate in the European Central Market Debate
