POTENTIAL LOCATIONS OF TYPE SECTIONS OF SHALE IN PAKISTAN

Sembar
The type section of the Sembar formation is about one mile southeast of Sembar Pass [39-C-9, RQ
612872, Lat. 29” 55’ 05’’ N., Long. 68” 34’ 48’’ E.]. At this locality it lies unconformably upon Jurassic
limestone and is overlain with apparent conformity by the Goru formation.

Ghazij Shale
The term Ghazij was also inrroduced by Oldham and the name is taken from the valley and stream which extend
southeast from Spintangi to Dunghan Hill [ 39-(2-11. This area is considered the type locality and the section
at Spintangi is proposed as the type s,-:tion 139-C-1, RQ 087312, Lat. 29” 57’ 06’’ N., Long. 68” 05’
00” E.].

Gaj Shale
The term Gaj was also introduced by Blanford and the type section of the formation is along the lower part of the
Gaj River [35-N-5, PS 717228, Lat. 26” 51’ 40” N., Long. 67” 17’ 18” E.].

Nari Sandy shale


This term was introduced by Blanford from Nari Nala, a stream in the Kirthar Range just south of the Gaj River.
The Gaj River section, however, is proposed as the type section 135-N-1, PS 592325, Lat. 26” 56’ 12” N.,
Long. 67’ 10’ 10” E.].
