What is Myers Briggs?
Myers Briggs
An Introspective Self-Report
The Myer Briggs theory was developed by Katharine Briggs and Isabel
Briggs Myers. The test is a modified version of a psychological type theory
made by Carl Gustav Jung. The test was based on sixteen personality types
and were considered stereotypes by Jung. Jung claimed that the test acts
as useful reference points to understand unique personalities. In order for
the test to work, a person must fill out a multiple choice questionnaire. Note
that there are no right or wrong answers on the test and the person only
chooses the answer that best fit them. The result a person will receive is
one out of sixteen personalities. Personalities are categorized by a person’s
preference or general attitude, one of the two functions or perception, and
their preference of the two functions of judging. The sixteen personality
types are: Extraverted (E) vs. Introverted (I), Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N),
Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F). These six letters can be arranged into sixteen
different order, hence the total number of personalities is sixteen.
