ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION
In this fluid mechanics assignment, we were given a task to calculate and choose
which pipe size is needed for our design in piping system. We were give two type of pump
which is pump A and pump B. The performance of both pumps is approximated by the
expression H=Ho-aQ2. The shut-off head Ho, and coefficient a, for Pump A are 40 m and
0.053 𝑚/𝐿𝑝𝑚2 , respectively; while that for Pump B are 11.45 m and 0.001408 𝑚/𝐿𝑝𝑚2,
respectively. In our analysis, we will present the detail calculation of our design, design
analysis that have been analyzed and summarize the problem given. Details of the problem
statement will be insert in our appendix.

FUNDAMENTAL AND THEORY OF PUMP

In this fundamental of piping and pump selection, this knowledge will be used in our design
analysis and the selection of pump.

Energy analysis of flow in piping system:

For a general piping system shown below, the conservation of energy equation is given by
the equation called Bernoulli equation

𝑃1 𝑉12 𝑃2 𝑉22
Equation 1 = + + 𝑍1 + ℎ𝑝 = + + 𝑍2 + ℎ𝐿𝑃 + ℎ𝐿𝑀
𝜌𝑔 2𝑔 𝜌𝑔 2𝑔

Equation 2
