Observation 1

For my first observation, i chose to observe Mr. Ayala, who was a previous History
teacher of mine when i use to attend that same High School . I chose to go in the morning
because he tends to wake students up with a bit of classical music and engage in
conversations as they walk through the door. For the day, he was just teaching a bit of new
materials and reviewed some old materials to make sure they were ready for their finals . The
students seemed to enjoy his class because they were laughing and talking during the class .
They were engaging in the course materials during the review session . The teacher typically
would call on a student regarding the topic in order to make sure the students knew the
information. He would then call on multiple other students in other to get their response . After
doing so, he proceeded to inform them whether they were on the correct path regarding the
answers. The lesson i would say did build specific skills when it came to observation skills .
The lesson that was taught was well balanced because the teacher made sure to include
slides, charts, verbally talked to the students as well to make sure they understood the
content and why it was the way it was. From what i saw, the students who were engaged in
the discussion seemed to be the ones who wanted to make sure they did well on their final .
While the ones who remained quiet and on their phone seemed to show less interest on what
was being taught to them.
