Kauai O’o

On an island covered in green.

Full of plants, vibrant and bright .
There once lived a bird, now never seen.
And now, the Kauai O’o will never again take flight.
Alone in the night, the male bird cries his desperate call
Waiting for a response, he sings his solo song
There will be no reply, he is the last one of them all
The bird is now extinct, it did not take long
To the world, this is a microscopic ripple in a much larger pond
Habitat loss has caused massive devastation
This one single bird, because of humans, is now gone
We do nothing to stop our immense deforestation
This bird, only a singular species, but it only takes one
Many more species will meet the same fate, if nothing is done.
