Objective(s):
Students will be able to complete a correct on target pass of a basketball in three
ways (chest pass, bounce pass and overhead pass).
State Course of Study Standard: (Correlated to objective)
PETSTRO.1 The physically educated student demonstrates competency in a variety of motor
skills and movement patterns.
a. Demonstrates competencies in the motor skills and movement patterns needed to participate in
sports and games involving controlling and using manipulatives (balls, pucks, birdies, long
implements, short implements, and Frisbee discs).

g. Describes how muscles are used in a basic, sport-specific motion in invasion, net, and a
striking game or sport.

Procedure:

Opening
Teacher will instruct all students sitting in the bleacher while they are holding ball over their
head. Giving instructions this way will keep students engaged and have students wondering why
ball is over their head. After instructions are given teacher will ask does anyone know why you
are holding ball over head. Response will be me either as students will line up along wall 1 row
at a time. Students can dribble over to wall but must make it to wall in 5 sec allotted time. During
instructions, students will be told that the deal is dribble only when I say dribble

Guided practice
Teacher will use gradual release instructional strategy (I do, we do, you do). Teacher will
demonstrate, then each student will perform one pass with the teacher, lastly students will
perform passes on their own with a partner. Gradual release instructional strategy will be used
for each of the three passes.
Independent practice
Each student will perform a pass to the teacher as the teacher yells out cue for student to correct
during independent practice or perfect pass if no corrections needed. Other students will give one
clap on correction cue and two claps on perfect pass. This allows all students to be engaged and
learn from their classmates.

Students will be paired together to complete 10 passes each of each type of pass. As students are
making passes, teacher will move about partners correcting and encouraging. Teacher will score
those with perfect passes on the rubric at this time.

Enrichment: Students who demonstrate an increased level of ability on the pass, will be
extended to one handed overhead passes and entry (bounce) passes.

Closing/Ticket out of the door

All students (including those who have already been scored) will perform each pass to their
partner as teacher scores on the rubric. The only students who will be actually recorded on rubric
at this time are those were not scored during independent application. This gives those students
another opportunity to perform pass correctly.

Students will be allowed to dribble for 2 minutes before sitting in bleachers

Assessment: Students will be assessed over two passes of each type of pass, with the best pass
being scored on the rubric
Materials and Equipment: Rubric and 20 basketballs
