PRINCIPALS’ MESSAGE June 2018

Tell me and I’ll forget … Show me and I may remember …
Involve me and I will learn.
- Benjamin Franklin
It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is just around the corner! Reflecting back on the year, it
is clear that a lot of learning has taken place. Our Admin team, our staff and our students have experienced
all sorts of new things this year. It was a pleasure to watch the students learn and grow. Their curiosity and
optimism is an absolute breath of fresh air!
Our team is already hard at work planning for the 2018/2019 school year! Our goal is to continue to offer
experiential learning environments that foster inquiry and discovery through fun and exciting project based
learning activities.
Our Green Classroom is up and running, and staff and students are taking full advantage of that space to
learn about science, to read, create art and to observe the beauty of nature. Our ecosystem has also helped
us keep connected with nature.
A few changes to the teaching positions include: Mme Wowchuk will be our new Guidance Counsellor and
half time Learning Support teacher. Mme Bosko-Kelly will also be a Learning Support teacher half time and
will be continuing as half time IPLÉ teacher, which is Reading Recovery in French.
We have some sad good-byes to say at our school as well. Mme Heidinger is fulfilling her
passion as a guidance counsellor at St. Andrews School, M. Dubé has some exciting new chal-
lenges ahead at East Selkirk Middle School, and Mme Neil will be full time at École Selkirk
Junior High as guidance counsellor, continuing to meet the needs of the middle years students
there. Mme Dilka is thrilled about taking on her new position in the Louis Riel School Division
as a K-3 Learning Support teacher. We will truly miss this team of caring teachers but wish them wonderful
adventures as they move into these new positions. Thank-you for many years of dedication to the
students at EB and the French Immersion Program.
Finally, we would like to extend a heart felt thank-you to the EB Parent Council for making and serving us a
delicious meal for Staff Appreciation Week, as well as all of the other things you have done this year to help
make EB a better place to be! We are so lucky to have such a group of dedicated parents who work tirelessly
to make our school community so welcoming and special for all who walk through our doors!

On behalf of the EB team, we wish all of our families a safe & fun-filled summer!!

END-OF-YEAR INFO.
Our school is an active place to learn, and students need to dress appropriately. This
means dressing for the weather (layers are better for cool mornings and warm afternoons).
Students should wear modest clothes that will permit them to move comfortably. All students need
safe footwear for playing outdoors and for outdoor phys. ed. classes, to avoid sprains and cuts.
We hosted our annual Kindergarten Orientation May 30 and welcomed 34 new students to our
school. This event gives our new students the opportunity to get to know their new school. Each
student also received a gift bag full of activities they can use this summer to help them get ready for
school.
Our June calendar is full of special events, with Track & Field, Jelly Bean Tabloid Day, EB Variété,
Conversation-a-thon, K-12 Célébration d’immersion and assorted field trips. As an extra treat, the
Parent Advisory Council will be sponsoring a lunch for all of our students June 8 th and a Farewell
Luncheon for the Grade 6 students. Merci! Family members of our Grade 6 students are invited to
attend a special Farewell assembly for our ‘senior’ students on June 29th from 10:30-11:30am in
our gymnasium! A reminder school hours for K-6 students on June 29th are 9:00am-12:05pm (early
dismissal).
We are in the process of making our class lists. Our teachers put much thought and consideration
into preparing these class lists: learning styles, ratio of boys and girls, academic and social-emotional
development, and friendships. If you know that your child will not be returning to our school, we
would appreciate you informing the school as soon as possible about your decision. Merci!
We will host our Meet the Team event on Wednesday, September 5th from 4:30 - 6:00
pm. Although students do not have school that day, the Bonaventure Team will be hard at
work getting ready for a new year! Having students and parents come in early allows
students to meet their teacher and see their classroom, thus reducing any ‘back-to-school’
jitters. This also enables parents to drop off their child’s school supplies.
A final school newsletter and 2018-19 divisional calendar will be sent home with your child’s report
card on the last day of school. Report cards WILL NOT be issued before June 29th. If your child will
not be in attendance on June 29th, a self-addressed envelope with postage is to be provided.

A note from the Library ...

A big thank-you to those who supported the Used Book Sale and bought tickets for the
Spring Concert baskets. A total of $177.25 was raised for new library purchases!
Friday, June 15th is the deadline to have all books returned and any amounts owing for lost books
remitted. Merci!!

SPORTS CORNER
Congratulations to the Grade 4/5 soccer teams who played hard at the Divisional Soccer Tourna-
ment this month! Our students played great and had lots of fun.
May has already been an incredibly active month for our athletes with the Manitoba Marathon
training, Grade 4/5 Soccer Tournament, Grade 6 Softball Tournament, and Divisional Track and
Field Meet hot on our heels!
We have 42 students and parents officially registered for June 17th’s Manitoba Marathon.
Good luck to these determined runners who have been working hard to beat to their last
year’s time.
École Bonaventure hosted the Divisional Grade 6 Softball Tournament on May 31st at the Rec
Center. Sixteen teams arrived close to 10:00 am for a fun day of baseball, sportsmanship and fun.
Thank-you to our wonderful Parent Advisory volunteers who kept the ball players hydrated and
well fed at the canteen! Thank-you also to the 12 Grade 8 & 9 French immersion students who
umpired at the tournament. We also had a record-breaking 6 parent umpires: thank-you to Colin,
Heather, Mathew, Mark, Jeremy and Troy!
June 18th marks the date for the Divisional Track and Field Meet at the High
School for the Grade 4/5 students and June 20th for the Grade 6 students. Please
come out and cheer on our Bonaventure Bouledogues!
Enjoy this beautiful weather and a fun-filled summer vacation!!
