2. What did you learn about social development by observing this child? I have learned that
children are shy and quiet when they meet new people, but after they know other people
better, the children become more talkative and more open to meeting or being around new
people.
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages you see in the use of rating scales? Advantages of
the rating scale are you can see how your child has developed. Disadvantages are that you don’t
get specific areas that your needs to develop in, it’s just specific skills.
4. Describe a situation where you would use a rating scale for assessment and explain why.
5. Describe a situation when you would not use a rating scale as a form of assessment and explain
why.

Maggie has had social development. She has made new friends within the class. She made
friends like Luke D., Adrianna, and Lincoln.
Write down some things that the children say. Maggie says her name, other children in the
classes names, and she always talks about her family and the children they adopted from
Bulgaria.
Does the age of the children affect their ability to communicate effectively? Yes
How? The age of Maggie affects her ability t communicate effectively because she is 5 years
old and she will be going into kindergarten next year. Maggie communicates very well because
of her age and the fact she is starting school next year helps her speak clearly and effectively.
