electrons would be needed to make up one gram?

11. Convert one year (taken as 365.25 days) into


seconds. Give your answer in standard form, to 3
significant figures.

12. (a) Express 5.0 km in metres, in standard form.


(b) Light travels through air at a speed of 3.0 x 108
m s-1. If you shine a bright light towards an observer
who is 5.0 km away, how long will it take to reach him?
Give your answer to an appropriate number of figures.

13. Suppose you have your hair cut about every three
weeks (1.8 x 106 s), and that each time roughly 3 cm is
cut off.
(a) Convert 3 cm into metres, in standard form.
(b) Use the information above to arrive at the speed at
which your hair grows in m s-1. Express it in standard
form, to just one figure (because of the approximate
nature of the data).
