Subject: Concerns Regarding New Social Media Policy

Dear Mr. Freeburg, VP of Human Resources,

As I know you are aware, in response to the recent problems of employees listing their work
affiliation on social media. Recruiters from competitors can now easily identify our talent and
have taken some valuable employees and their clients. We have also gained some unwanted
media attention from employees engaging in inappropriate online discourse that does not reflect
the opinion of our firm, but purely of the individual himself.
In response to this problem, HR has announced the new mandatory social media policy which
prohibits employees from listing their organizational affiliation on individual social media sites.
With all due respect I would like to politely urge you and your department to reconsider this
policy. Though the policy may reduce recruiting and negative media attention, it will
significantly harm the relationship we have with our employees. We already limit their activity
during working hours and it is my understanding that limiting them outside of work will create a
significant disconnect and animosity between management and employees.
I would like to recommend a less extreme solution to this problem. A simple conversation with
employees about them being representatives of our firm when they engage in online discourse
will create a deeper understanding between management and employees while also allowing
employees to feel more involved in the stake of the company. Regarding the risk of recruitment,
this is a threat with or without the involvement of social media and should be addressed by
increasing the benefits of key employees and making our firm more appealing.
If you would like to speak further on this issue, please contact me at this email or give me a call.
Thank you for your time,
Matteo de Suduiraut
