Locations Waterfront Location Development Plan for Berlin
Housing along the Landwehrkanal in the Kreuzberg borough
Berlin's participation in the EU program "Interreg II C - Baltic Sea Region - Waterfront Urban Development" gave us the opportunity to draw up a Waterfront Location Development Plan (WLDP) for the city as a whole. This plan is guided by the idea that interior development has priority over outward expansion and by the Local Agenda 21 action plan. The WLDP is being presented by the Senate Department for Urban Development at a time when the exorbitant expectations of growth of the 1990s are being critically re-evaluated. Realistic forecasts of the demographic, social, environmental, and economic situation suggest that the city can and must continue sustainable growth in particularly attractive areas. The gradual implementation of plans for smaller areas, rather than the designing of entire new "cities on the water," seems to be the right response to changing needs and limited public funds.
The city no longer considers itself as a builder but acts as a mediator for investors and users. It sets the framework for the development of the blue ribbon network, initiates and directs procedures together with the various representatives of the private sector, and tries to eliminates bureaucratic obstacles.
Realistic forecasts of the demand side and the The bridge Monbijoubrücke and the overabundance of land available for Kupfergraben along Museum Island development in the region require clear in the Mitte borough priorities. The development projects "Wasserstadt (city on the water) Berlin- Oberhavel," "Parlaments- and Regierungsviertel (parliament and government district)," and "Rummelsburger Bucht (Rummelsburger bay)" are being modified to meet demand. The current public-private partnership projects "Westhafen" and "Spreestadt (city on the Spree) Charlottenburg" are being continued.
In addition, one of the key finding of the View from Heerstrasse to the Waterfront Location Development Pan is that Stössensee lake in Spandau projects in four areas of special importance according to the city's development policy should be launched in the short to medium term. As many as 35,000 apartments and space for up to 45,000 office jobs could be built in the next few decades along a total of 18 km of waterfront land.
