A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
It has been a privilege to serve as Mayor of
Gorseinon and Penyrheol since my election last
May and I am delighted that that my fellow
Councillors have given me this honour. It is also
an honour to be the youngest Mayor that our
town has had to date.
I must admit it has been a very busy year,
juggling my day job as a local dairy farmer, my
role as both Town Mayor and Local Authority
Councillor and also the arrival of my daughter
Violet, but I have enjoyed every minute of it and
it has been a pleasure to meet people and
organisations throughout the Gorseinon and
Penyrheol areas who contribute so much to our
community. I have met people from all walks of
life and with diverse interests; people who work
in different ways for the benefit of our area. We
are truly fortunate that so many people are
willing to give their time to sustain so many local
organisations.
I must take this opportunity to commend the
hard work that members of our town council put into local initiatives. We
have the fantastic Skatepark and soon we will have a BMX track to
accompany it. There is also the additional funding that has enabled us to
have the fantastic coloured flooring in Gower View Road play area, and we
have seen so many other excellent projects get off the ground, including
the Food with Friends community meal. I am proud that Gorseinon Town
Council exists to promote our local interests and that it has used every
opportunity to add value to the quality of local life.
This year once again, the Town Council has presented a gift along with a
plaque to residents within our community who have reached the age of
90. Also, for the first time, I had the privilege of attending and presenting
gifts to two of our residents who reached their 70th wedding anniversary
milestone.
The charity I have chosen to raise funds for during my term in office is the
cardiac department in Morriston Hospital. This choice of charity proved an
easy decision to make, not only to raise awareness of cardiomyopathy,
but to provide a long-lasting legacy to one of the most honest, kindest
and bravest friends to all, Richard‘Decky’Thomas. When I first told Decky’s
closest friends and family about my plans to honour his memory and raise
money for the cardiac department, the amount of support that they
offered was overwhelming. This is a testament to the type of person he
was and how much of a difference he made to everyone’s lives.
During my term I have managed to raise £9342.26 for this department.

On a personal note, I would like to thank my wife Rebecca for all her
support throughout the year. Being first time parents, we have more than
had our hands full, but she has supported my busy schedule throughout
the year and it would have been all the more difficult without her.
In conclusion, I would like to thank all of those who have helped during
the year in organising our various events and for people’s generous
support on each occasion and I would like to wish Cllr Jan Curtice the very
best for her term next year. I know she will do a fantastic job in upholding
the values of Gorseinon Town Council.
We have a great deal of which we can be proud in Gorseinon and
Penyrheol, and long may that continue.

munud ac mae wedi bod yn bleser cwrdd â
phobl a sefydliadau ar draws ardaloedd
Gorseinon a Phenyrheol sy’n cyfrannu cymaint at
ein cymuned. Rwy’ wedi cwrdd â phobl o bob
cefndir gyda diddordebau amrywiol iawn; pobl
sy’n gweithio mewn gwahanol ffyrdd er budd ein
hardal. Rydym yn wirioneddol ffodus bod cynifer
o bobl yn barod i roi o’u hamser i gynnal cynifer
o sefydliadau lleol.
Rhaid i mi achub ar y cyfle hwn i gymeradwyo’r
gwaith caled y mae aelodau ein cyngor tref yn ei roi i mewn i fentrau lleol.
Mae gennym y Parc Sglefrio gwych a chyn hir bydd gennym lwybr BMX i
gyd-fynd ag ef. Mae hefyd yr arian ychwanegol sydd wedi ein galluogi i
gael y llawr lliw arbennig yn ardal chwarae Ffordd Gower View, ac rydym
wedi gweld llawer o brosiectau gwych eraill yn dechrau, yn cynnwys y
pryd cymunedol Food with Friends. Rwy’n falch bod Cyngor Tref
Gorseinon yn bodoli i hyrwyddo ein buddiannau lleol a’i fod wedi
defnyddio pob cyfle i ychwanegu gwerth at ansawdd bywyd lleol.
Eleni unwaith eto, mae’r Cyngor Tref wedi cyflwyno rhodd a phlac i
breswylwyr yn ein cymuned sydd wedi cyrraedd 90 oed. Hefyd, am y tro
cyntaf, cefais y fraint o ymweld â dau o’n preswylwyr oedd wedi cyrraedd
y garreg filltir o’u 70ain pen-blwydd priodas, a rhoi anrhegion iddynt.

amdano a chodi arian i’r adran gardiaidd, roedd y gefnogaeth a gynigiwyd

wahaniaeth a wnaeth i fywydau pobl.

The New Ty Newydd Community Centre
opposite Gorseinon bus station has been
open for over a year now and several
community groups have regular bookings;
all for a very reasonable £8 per session.
There are two accessible rooms available
for hire downstairs with associated kitchen
and toilet facilities.
Regular bookings include; a Sewing group
on Thursday evenings, a Felters group on
Saturdays, and a Quilters group soon this
Summer. Political groups have regular
monthly meetings as well as the local
Widow/Widowers meeting every alternate
Monday morning.
Other businesses have booked the Hall for
interview and training sessions, as well as
Public meetings, keep fit sessions, Social
Services and Nursery groups sessions.

PUMP TRACK STREET

Gorseinon Town Council are glad to

Gorseinon Town Council, in conjunction
with Swansea Council, are proud to
announce that we have secured funding
for a Pump Track in Gorseinon. The Pump
Track, which is a type of off-road terrain for
cycle sport, has been designed and chosen
by the children of Gorseinon and
announce we have donated £19,000 to a
Penyrheol and will be situated next to the
new initiative this year that will see a
Skatepark in Parc Melyn Mynach. Work is
brand new play area installed on
due to begin in May and will be open for
Chapel Street in Gorseinon. Work on the
play in early August.

ONE VOICE WALES
Gorseinon Town Council members
attended the One Voice Wales Annual
General Meeting in April this year and are
proud to announce that we have received
an award for youth engagement for
delivering the Skatepark and for
community engagement for our
involvement with Food With Friends. One
Voice Wales covers 730+ Town and
Community Councils across Wales and
we were thrilled to have won 3rd Place
(Commended) in both categories. This
award belongs to all involved with these
projects, specifically the children of
Penyrheol and Gorseinon as well as
members of St Catherine's Church.
