Foley effects are sound effects added to films during post-production. A Foley artist watches scenes and adds additional sounds not recorded on set, such as footsteps, clothing rustling, breaking glass, and other everyday sounds. The document describes how a Foley artist created sound effects for the book "George's Marvellous Medicine" by simulating the sounds of floor polish scooping and pouring, flea powder pouring, canary seed pouring and dropping, and shoe polish mixing and pouring using everyday items like flour, oats, cream, and blackhead remover.

What’s happening on-screen
Here in the scene In post, the Foley
someone is trying to artist will watch the pick a lock (which scene back and act obviously very quiet) all additional sound effects Examples of how I made the sounds.
Waxwell Floor Polish
For the floor polish, I
squeezed some face cream into a cup
then scooped it out
near the mic to get the ‘scooping’ sound, which is described in the book
And finally threw it
down to the bottom of the pan to get a sloppy ‘plonking’ sound. Flea Powder for dogs
For the flea powder
I simply poured some flour into the pan, next to the microphone.
Canary Seed
For the canary
seed I poured some oats into the pan, I also took a handful and let it fall out into the pan. Shoe-Polish
For the shoe polish, I
poured some blackhead remover into a cup
I then squeezed some
thick cream into the cup and mixed this together
After I flicked the mixture
into the pan to get another ‘sloppy’ slapping sound.
