ROUTE DETERMINATION
Route is automatically proposed for each sales document item in the sales order. It is the
process whereby one is able to assign a specific route with transportation legs using different
shipment types and carriers
Configuration Steps for Route Determination:
1. Define Modes of Transport:
‘The modes of transport are the types of transportationused to transport the materials and may
be defined as road or plane etc. The modes of transport are self-explanatory. There may be, for
example road or plane.
Path: SPRO > S&D > Basic functions > Routes > Define Routes > Define Modes of Transport

2. Define Shipping Types:
‘The shipping types are the actual “vehicles” used to transport the materials and may be defined
as train, mail, etc.
In this step we assign shipping types along with the modes of transport and a shipping type
procedure group.
Path: SPRO > S&D > Basic functions > Routes > Define Routes > Define shipping types

3, Transportation Connection Point:
In this activity we define transportation connection points. A connection point can be one of
the following.
‘An airport, a railway station, a border crossing etc.

4, Define Routes and Stages:
In this step we define the route with its associated route stages and transportation connection
point.

In this step we maintained all the details regarding the route like shipping type, preliminary
legs, transit duration, calendar, distance etc.
After defining the route proceed with defining the route stages by selecting the route and the
route stages folder in the file structure on the left side of the screen.
After defining the routes we'll proceed with maintaining stages for all routes in the next step.

5. Maintain Stages for all Routes:
In this activity, you can process stages for several routes together. This makes it possible to
maintain the detailed information of stages efficiently.
For us no need to maintain this step as we have only one route
Path: SPRO > S&D > Basic functions > Routes > Define routes > Maintain stage for all routes
6. Define Transportation Zone:
For route determination, we divide a country up into transport zones.
In this activity, you can define transportation zones according to country and depending on
your company’s needs. Transportation zones represent delivery recipient(ship-to-party) regions
or delivery shipper(vendor) regions.

7. Maintain Country and Transportation Zone for Shipping Point:
In this activity, we can assign countries and transportation zones that we have defined earlier
for each shipping point.
Path: SPRO > S&D > Basic functions > Routes > Route determination > Maintain country and
transportation zone for shipping point
