Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary
June 24th at 6:00pm
Dr. Bruce serves as the president of Asia-Pacific
Nazarene Theological Seminary in Manila,
Philippines, where Dr. Peggy is also on the teaching
faculty and a consultant in student life and campus
development. They have been special assignment
missionaries on the Asia-Pacific region since
September 2016.
Prior to their move to APNTS, the two worked in various roles at
Nazarene universities from 1991-2016; they also served in local church
pastoral staff positions in Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama. They have
now taken on a new adventure, hand-in-hand with a dedicated faculty and
staff, a multicultural student body from 17 nations, and the Asia-Pacific
region, training pastors, missionaries, and teachers for ministry.
Since 1984, Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary has
dedicated itself to “bridging cultures for Christ” and equipping each new
generation for Christ like leadership and ministry excellence. Five masters
programs, three PhD degrees, and a new Doctor of Ministry curriculum
focus on personal and community transformation in the Wesleyan
tradition, with over 500 graduates now serving Christ and sharing the
gospel around the world.

MICAH 6:8 MINISTRY from Sandy Schefcik
Did you know…that Christian Legal Society filed a brief in April to help
protect clergy of all faiths from a higher tax bill? A group hostile to
religion seeks to take away the housing allowance for clergy, a tax
provision that is deeply embedded in the fabric of our national life. If
the government were compelled to end the housing allowance,
religious congregations would be forced to absorb a significant
economic hit to their clergy. As CLS explains in its friend-of-the-court
brief, between 61 and 81 percent of American congregations rely on
housing allowances to help their clergy live on modest incomes. Many
retired ministers rely significantly on the housing allowance to
supplement their modest pensions. Loss of the housing
allowance would disproportionately harm smaller congregations that
lack the economic ability to absorb a significant increase in taxes for
their clergy. The effects on congregations with modest resources will
be particularly severe in urban areas, where housing is particularly
expensive. This lawsuit threatens leaders of all faiths who sacrificially
serve their communities each and every day.
