1. Important information for the installation of the electronic logbook
Only for use in the BMW dealer organisation.
The electronic logbook may only be installed by a specialist workshop that has the required
special tools and manuals (servicing, repair, diagnostics, etc.).
Read the error memory before disconnecting the battery and after completing the installation
work.
As a result of development work it may be that connections or pin assignments are changed.
You must therefore ensure that you use the latest test instructions for the installation.
All wiring harnesses and cables must be laid in such a way that they cannot kink, sag, chafe or
be crushed.
Tie back excess lengths of the wiring harnesses and cables and secure them at suitable points
with cable ties to prevent rattling noise.
Ensure that all components can move freely.
Item numbers refer only to the overview drawings and to the texts next to the appropriate figure.
As you install the insulation-piercing connectors ensure that no stripped cable end
projects out of them.
The time required for calibrating the logbook is not included in the installation time.
The installation position of the logbook shown in the installation instructions is to be

regarded as a suggestion.
The installation position for the logbook in the glove compartment is to be agreed with the
customer before the installation work is commenced.
Special attention must be paid to ensure that the glove compartment can be closed after
the logbook has been installed in the required position.

6. To prepare the glove compartment (E46 cars))
Drill a hole (11) on the glove compartment (12)

using dimensions a and b with a 10 mm twist drill.

First drill through the glove compartment frame
and then through the glove compartment.
Dimensions: a = 140 mm

7. To prepare the glove compartment (E53 cars)
Drill a hole (11) on the glove compartment (12)

8. To install the base plate and logbook in the glove compartment
Thread the socket contacts (11) on the spiral cable

(12) on the base plate through the hole in the glove

12 compartment and connect and lock them to the
supplied socket casing (3).

If the logbook is installed other than as

shown in the figure, ensure that the glove
max. 5mm
compartment will close.
13 Find and mark the installation position of the base

plate and logbook desired by the customer.
Remove the Velcro strip (11) from the underside of
the base plate, align it in the glove compartment
12 (12) and affix it.
11 Then drill four holes (13) with a 3.2 mm drill as
shown in the figure.

When drilling the holes ensure that the depth
of the holes does not exceed max. 5 mm,
do not drill all the way through.
Rivet the Velcro strip (11) into the glove

5 compartment (12) using four blind rivets 3.2x10 (5).

8. To install the base plate and logbook in the glove compartment
Secure the logbook (2) and base plate (1) onto the

Velcro strip (11) you installed previously.

2 Install the glove compartment (12) again and
1 connect the logbook to the connection cable (tie

9. Concluding work, to calibrate the logbook, coding
Concluding work

Conduct a function test
Reassemble the car by following the instructions for its dismantling in reverse order
Print out error memory
To calibrate the logbook
To adjust the kilometre counter in the logbook it must be calibrated.

To do this the car must be driven over a distance of at least 10.0 or 11.0 ... km using the
trip counter.
See the customer information for the logbook for the procedure for calibrating it.
Coding
This system does not require coding.

1. Vigtige indbygningsanvisninger for den elektroniske kørselsbog
Kun bestemt til brug i BMW HO (BMW Handelsorganisationen).
Indbygningen af den elektroniske kørselsbog må kun foretages af et autoriseret værksted, som

råder over de nødvendige specialværktøjer og håndbøger (Vedligeholdelses-, Reparations-,
Diagnosemanual, etc.).
Før batteriet klemmes af og efter endt montering udlæses fejlhukommelserne.

I trit med udviklingen kan det ikke udelukkes, at tilslutninger eller pintildelinger ændrer sig.
Derfor skal der ved indbygning altid anvendes den respektivt gældende testvejledning.
Ved tilpasning/trækning af alle kabeltræer og ledninger skal det sikres, at hverken knæk,
nedhæng, gnidning eller knusning kan forekomme.
For lange kabeltræ- og ledningsender skal bindes op og fastgøres på egnede steder med
kabelbindere for at undgå klaprende støj.
Fri bevægelighed skal sikres.
Positionsnumrene gælder kun for oversigterne og teksterne til de respektive billeder.
Vær opmærksom på ved montering af skæreklemmesamlingerne, at der ikke stikker

uisolerede kabelender ud af skæreklemmesamlingerne.
Tidsforbruget for kalibreringen af kørselsbogen er ikke medregnet i indbygningstiden.
Indbygningspositionen af kørselsbogen, som vist i indbygningsvejledningen, er kun et

forslag.
Kørselsbogens spærreposition i handskerummet skal afklares med kunden før indbygnin-
gen.
Der skal ligeledes tages hensyn til, at handskerummet kan lukkes med den valgte
indbygningsposition af kørselsbogen.

Kørselsbogen (2) med bundpladen (1) fastgøres til

Tilpasningen af kilometælleren i kørselsbogen kræver, at denne kalibreres. Dertil kræves,

at der køres en strækning på mindst 10,0 eller 11,0 … km efter dagskilometertælleren.
Kalibrering se kundeinfo i kørselsbogen.
Kodning
Kodning af dette system er ikke relevant.

Lay branches A1-A5, along the standard wiring

harness as shown in the figure.

Connect branch A2, red cable, to the red/yellow/

shown in the figure using dimension a with a 5 mm

Thread the socket contacts (11) on the spiral cable

(12) on the base plate through the hole in the glove

If the logbook is installed other than as

compartment will close.

13 Find and mark the installation position of the base

Rivet the Velcro strip (11) into the glove

5 compartment (12) using four blind rivets 3.2x10 (5).
