What strategies were most effective in helping you
improve your learning with these assessments? Or
where do you see your greatest improvement?
● Strategies that helped were;
● Placing sticky tabs when reading is very
effective and time-saving
● When reading books or text like the Kite
Runner, I focus on important quotes and
sections that are relevant to the given
questions. This helps me with quote blending
and avoids unnecessary sentences.
● Another strategy that I commonly used in the
course (and other courses as well) is to
collect all the feedback I receive and organize
it in a folder. By keeping everything in a folder
I can refer to it in the future, which helps in
some cases as I tend to not make the same
mistakes over and over. And from my
feedback, I like to identify my main area for
improvement, so I can enhance my
weaknesses.

What is your greatest improvement or biggest strength with reading skills in the fiction and non-fiction
assessments?

● For fiction assessments, I believe my greatest
strength in reading skills is that I can read and
demonstrate an understanding of a variety of
literary texts
○ For example, this is evident in
Gentlemen of the Jungle
● I believe this is my strength because when I
am usually forming an opinion I do it because
I focus on specific quotes and plan which type
of opinion I can form from them. For example,
in the Gentlemen in the jungle I am able to
choose quotes that reveal how the man faces
oppression from the animals.

● I think I can most improve in my evaluation of
text. I feel like I am able to analyze but cannot
push it further by answering why or how.
● Like in the Harrison Bergeron Film questions I
was not able to explain why some things were
changed from the book to the film as I only
pointed those things out and didn’t explain
them.
What is your greatest improvement or biggest strength with writing?

● I feel like I am able to provide great context
for answers and be concise with my answers.
Like on my gentlemen in the jungle answer I
was able to provide good context and my
answer was focused on the question and
didn’t include unnecessary information.
What is the writing skill you can most improve?
Explain
● I think I can most improve on is by moving
away from the 3 point and proof structure that
we learned in grade 10. This is holding me
back as I am used to it and even answer most
questions in other courses following the 3-
point format. For most my work, I’ve used the
3-point format and sometimes its difficult to
move away from something one is so used to.
What is your greatest improvement or biggest strength with media?
Evidence
I think my greatest strengths in media are:
presentation I was able to analyze for deeper
meaning and significance within common
media examples; like the Big Bang Theory
and Black Panther. To be specific, my group
and I analyzed tokenism within Big Bang
Theory and how they used a individual from a
minority group to represent the whole group.

● I feel like I have already started improving on
this but to reach to a level 4
○ I think I can practice this skill by
finding the significance in events in
books as I read a long, like in the Kite
Runner and draw connections from
them or relate them to other books or
events.

points and I am always straight to the point.
Like with my gentlemen in the jungle answer,
I was straight to the point.

flow well. I need to be more fluid in my

demonstrating an understanding of a variety

What is your greatest improvement or biggest strength with oral communication?

Evidence
I think my greatest improvement with oral
communication is that I am able to express myself
during presentations (speaking) effectively to an
audience. For example, before in other presentations
for other courses I often stutter or am very unclear
when presenting, but I feel now I have enhanced my
speaking skills. To be specific, for the discrimination
lens presentation, I presented with no script and was
well-rehearsed. I was able to use good volume, had
proper intonation, and eye contact.
What is the oral skill you can most improve?
Explain
The biggest oral skill I need to improve on is
listening. Often at times I tend to have difficulty
paying attention. This lack of listening effects my
understanding of various topics especially when
being communicated orally.
Evident by the elements notes. I was only able to
make notes for short-durations and would often lose
focus.
appropriate font and font size. I used effective
visual aids that suited my presentation and
enhanced my visuals using animations. I
received positive feedback in the media
creation aspect.

I believe I can improve this ability by pushing my
evaluations of media further by evaluating and
analyzing for deeper meaning instead of pointing out
the obvious.

 I presented without the use of que-cards, had
good eye-contact, and knew my information
well (so that I could convey it) during my
chemistry and discrimination presentation.

 I feel like I need to find an effective way to
make notes. I need to copy down the
essential information in jot form when
listening.
 Instead of listening and copying down
everything, I need to learn to focus on
essential information (active listening)
 Improve focus by eliminating distractions
