Universal Design for Learning (UDL):I will address Universal Design for Learning principles to extend and
support students through BrainPop. The BrainPop video includes a function where captions can be enabled
for students with hearing disabilities. This app allows the students to have access at home, to assist them
further with their work or upcoming test. BrainPop also offers videos in multiple languages, which is useful for
English Learners.

Lesson idea implementation: To address the standard, I will ask students “Do you know who invented
peanut butter, or how it is made? Next, the teacher will introduce the study of famous African Americans
(George Washington Carver) from BrainPop.com. The students will be in a whole group during this time. The
students will be asked to remember one interesting fact about George Washington Craver after watching the
educational video. After students are done with thinking of their interesting fact from video, the teacher will
write down each interesting fact that the students stated on the board.
After teacher goes over the interesting facts she write down from the students. The teacher will give

students a small quiz to test their knowledge on the video, after the quiz students will get in pairs to grade
each other’s work. BrainPop also offers activities that students could work in pairs to learn more about
George Washington Carver. Altogether this lesson should be 30-35 minutes. I will assess my students to see if
they understood through scaffolding, observations, and the BrainPop quiz.

Reflective Practice: I will extend this lesson by coming up with a home project for students to bring in food
that’s made of peanut butter. I will also have students have a day where they share each item they brought in
from home and explain what it is. For students who are allergic to peanut butter, I will have them bring in
another item home because George Washington Carver had more inventions than peanut butter.
