Quincy James Ogline was born Aug. 21, 2015. Quincy
was born with a congenital heart defect called Ebstein’s Anomaly, Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO), and pulmonary dysplasia. He has been in and out of the hopsital frequently. Even when Quincy was home, he was on oxygen and being monitored daily.
Quincy’s doctor wanted to wait until Quincy was 2 years
old before his first open heart surgery. But in February 2016, Quincy’s parents learned that his condition would require surgery very soon. On Feb. 16, 2016, Quincy underwent his first open heart surgery at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
He suffered three cardiac arrests while recovering from
surgery. Each time, doctors performed CPR and shocked his heart back into rhythm. It was a difficult time for Quincy and his family. Doctors kept Quincy’s chest open for three days and he was intubated for a week. In surgery and during his recovery, Quincy needed blood transfusions.
Now only 16 months old, Quincy will need more
interventions in the future. A blood drive will be held at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in honor of Quincy.
