Content Standard Addressed: SS5E1 Use the basic economic concepts of trade, opportunity cost,
specialization, productivity, and price incentives to illustrate historical events.
1. Describe opportunity costs and their relationship to decision-making across time (e.g., decisions by
individuals in response to rationing during WWII).
2. Explain how price incentives affect people’s behavior and choices (e.g., decisions to participate in
cattle trails because of increased beef prices).
3. Describe how specialization can improve standards of living and productivity (e.g., how Henry Ford’s
use of the assembly line reduced the price of automobiles).
4. Describe how trade and voluntary exchange promotes economic activity (e.g., how the Panama Canal
increases trade among countries).
Technology Standard Addressed: 3. Knowledge Constructor
Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative
artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others. Students:
1. plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other resources for their
intellectual or creative pursuits.
2. evaluate the accuracy, perspective, credibility and relevance of information, media, data or other
resources.
3. curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create collections of
artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions.
4. build knowledge by actively exploring real-world issues and problems, developing ideas and theories
and pursuing answers and solutions.

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT)
I will show them my example of my Frog Life Cycle board to show them one example of what it can look like.
However, I would prefer it not look like mine, I want them to make it their own. I will have the students use
the Discovery Education Board Builder to build and create their own board to show me what they know about
basic economic concepts of trade, opportunity cost, specialization, productivity, and price incentives to
illustrate historical events. I will allow the students a week or maybe a week in a half to work on this with
partners. I will have the students present what they have learned to the class and I will grade them on the
time, effort, content and their obvious level of knowledge they have on this topic. This will make the students
have a higher level of learning because they are going to have to go through and synthesize the data they
have collected to make a meaningful and thought-provoking piece.
Reflective Practice:
I think this will help student learning because they are going to be learning and researching all on their own.
They are going to be responsible for their own data and learning. Then, based on their knowledge they will
create a product (board). To further extend the lesson, I will go over what they learned and what they should
have gotten out what they should of learned in class after they have all presented their products. I will use my
SmartBoard to write what they should of learned on the screen.
