Definition of Literature Review


A literature review is a summary of what you have read which is contained in the
literature or article. It focuses on a specific topic of interest and included a critical
analysis of the relationship among different works.

Simple rules on how to write a literature review:


1. Choose or decide on a specific topic.
2. Make sure to have an access in a relevant online databases.
3. Download all the relevant reference journals from online databases.
4. Arrange each downloaded articles to specific category with similar topics/groups.
5. Read articles and take notes while reading. Analyze the literature carefully.
6. You can check the references of the article you are reading and you can use it as a
guide to download additional articles relevant to your topic.
7. Focus on latest studies (at least 5 to 7 years older) but do not forget older studies.
8. Identify relationship among studies.
9. Keep your review focused on your topic.
10. While doing your literature review, be critical and consistent.
11.Write a conclusion at the end of the review.
12.Check the flow of your literature review or argument for coherence.
13. Use a citation or reference generator (Mendeley, EndNote, etc.) for the proper
format (APA, IEEE, etc.) of writing references. These reference generators would
ease the burden of manually typing each reference journal format.
