Presentation

My team is composed by Missael, Virginia, Jacob, Willie, Michael and Kristen.

As in each quarter we have a project in which we test the knowledge learned, the
theme of this quarter is the Racer Drones, which are small quadcopters of unmanned
aerial vehicles (UAV) that are specially designed to compete in racing events.

The Automatic Control professor told us about the project and its features, it’s
necessary to configure the parameters of the controller using a PDI control that runs
in the microcontroller, synchronize the transmitter with the drone to control it and not
exceed the following dimension: 240 mm width (point to point distance between two
brushless motors in a drone).

Objective

The main objectives of this project are to achieve that the drone will be able to fly at
least 5 five minutes to complete an obstacle race course in the fastest possible time,
reach 20 meters high and perform safe landing, that’s why we must understand the
spatial position of the drone to avoid hitting it with the ground and obstacles during
the race.

Describe the drone

The drone is a quadcopter fly machine which is controlled by an electronic computer

that contains two advanced sensors to achieve a stable flight: Accelerometer and
Gyroscope.

The main frame is made of carbon fiber which is the stiffest and lightest material and
helps bring together important components such as battery, main boards, four
brushless motors and sensors, as well as provide their protection. The electric
source comes from an alloy (Lithium Polymer) battery, because it’s better than nickel
cadmium battery, these batteries provide more current on demand.
