Instructional Software
TW: Introduce the concept of the water cycle to the students by showing a BrainPop video on the water cycle.
TW: Facilitate conversation with the students on concepts that they notice and topic sthat stood out to them.
TW will also ask various questions such as: “Now that you’ve seen the video, how would you explain what
causes rainfall?”
SW: Turn to their neighbor and have a short discussion about what they believe causes rainfall.
After the discussion, students will be split into groups of three- five. With the provided Chromebooks, the
group will access the BrainPop website, exploring various activities and interactive games the site provides to
enhance learning.
After ten minutes of exploring the website, I will provide a graphic organizer for students to complete if they
choose to show their learning in that way. Students may also be able to show learning by creating a
PowerPoint or play.
After twenty minutes, we will come together as a whole group. Each group will present the activity they
decided to complete/ create together. I will collect formative data via activity checklist. After a short closing
discussion about our learning, I will provide students with a Ticket Out the Door in which they will illustrate the
water cycle. I will use this for formative data.
Reflective Practice:
I feel that these activities would have a positive impact of student learning because I use real world
application for an abstract concept. By having students do the turn and talk, they are able to take an everyday
occurrence and discuss it in an educational manner. Also, the activity positively impacts their learning because
I incorporate student choice. According to research, students are more likely to succeed when choice is
incorporated because they are able to take ownership of their learning. To improve the lesson, I would include
more means of expression such as Prezi, poster board or rap.
