1.0 PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this Method Statement is to describe step by step the procedure for the
installation of LV Panels. (MDB’s, Capacitor Banks,VFD’,SMDB’s, DB’s ETC.)

2.0 SCOPE

2.1 The scope of this Method Statement is to define the sequence and methodology for the
installation of various LV Panels.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

4.1 PROJECT MANAGER

4.1.1 Is having full authority and overall responsibility to manage, supervise and control the
works. Coordinate with the Engineers and the Employer Representative for execution
of the contract scope of works. Implement the Project Quality Systems to the
satisfaction of the project requirements. Review changes and variations to evaluate
impact of those on time and schedule.

4.2.1 Coordinate with the QA/QC Engineer to advice for the areas to be raise for
inspection.

4.2.2 Coordinate the entire site activities required for the installation of Low Voltage
Panel. Panel is according to the project specification, manufacturer data sheet and
approved shop drawing.

4.2.3 Liaise with Site Representatives of the Employer Representative, Engineers and
Contractor and coordinate safety procedures with Site Engineers and Supervisors.

4.2.4 Coordinate and explain the work to carry out to the Supervisors.

4.2.5 Ensure the compliance of works with the related approved Quality Control Procedure
and co-ordinate with the QA/QC Engineer to advice for the areas to be raise for
inspection.

4.3 QA/QC ENGINEERS

4.3.1 Inspecting the materials on site as per approved materials submittal and raise MIR within
24 hrs prior to installation on site.

4.3.2 Inspection for the installation as per approved drawings and approved test plans and
checklists.

4.3.3 Preparing test forms for testing on site and updating results accomplished.

4.3.4 Issuing inspection request within 24 hrs before the actual inspection.

4.3.5 Responsible for the assurance of Quality control, method statement and inspection test
plan.

4.3.6 Controlling the shop drawings flow on site.

4.4.1 Ensure health and safety of the site personnel.


4.4.2 Ensuring PPE available with site personnel.
4.4.3 Good housekeeping on site.
4.4.4 Environmental concerns are addressed.
4.4.5 Responsible for implementation and assurance of the safety and environmental
requirements (JSEA).

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 Installation of Main Distribution Board (MDB) and Capacitor Bank (CB)

5.1.1 Ensure that the work area is ready and safe to start the installation of MDB’s and
Capacitor banks.
5.1.2 Ensure approved documents like shop drawings, SLD, electrical room layout and load
schedules are available with the installation team.
5.1.3 Ensure all civil and finishing works are completed for the area of installation and
released/ cleared by civil section to proceed on for further work of shifting, positioning of
MDB’s and Capacitor banks.
5.1.4 Shift the particular panels and associated accessories to the work place with crane or
wheelbarrows. Packing will be removed at the position of installation.
5.1.5 Check the label / marking to ensure the right board before installation.
5.1.6 Minimum clearance of 750 mm shall be maintained at rear side of the panel so that
easy access for termination of cables and other maintenance works can be carried
out.
5.1.7 Mark the fixing position of the panels as per shop drawing, co-ordinate with other
equipment and services.
5.1.8 Fix the MDB with proper metal plugs and bolts. Ensure the installation is straight and
levelled.

5.1.9 Suitable Knock-out at the bottom of the MDB shall be used for Incoming and Outgoing
cable entry.
5.1.10 All knockouts made on the panel covers shall be filed and provided with grommets
to avoid sharp edges and unused knockouts shall be covered.
5.1.11 Termination of Cables shall be done using approved cable glands and lugs.
Glanding and connections should be done only by competent technicians /
electricians.
5.1.12 All panel boards and switch gears shall be provided with proper earthing connections as
per approved shop drawings.
5.1.13 Complete wiring & terminations related to BMS monitoring (if applicable).
5.1.14 Manufacturer recommendations are to be followed for all relay, timer and other
breaker current settings, as per the total connected loads and the discriminati on
study of the system.
5.1.15 Check and ensure that cables route is completed and free from damage of sharp edges.
Ensure no excessive stress is applied on the cable which may damage the insulations and
its functionality.
5.1.16 Identification labels of approved type shall be fixed on all panel boards.
5.1.17 Co-ordinate and ensure provision of Chequer plates on the open trenches inside the
LV Room.
5.1.18 Ensure that all Cable entries and other openings of Electrical / LV Room, Wall /
Floor are carried out with proper approved sealant.
5.2 Installation of VFD, Sub Main Distribution Boards and Final Distribution Boards
5.2.1 Ensure all civil and finishing works are completed for the area of installation and
released/ cleared by civil section to proceed on for further work of shifting, positioning of
VFD’s, SMDB’s and DB’s.
5.2.2 Ensure the relevant current / approved shop drawings are available with the
installation team.

5.2.3 Check the label / marking to ensure the right board before installation.
5.2.4 Ensure the floor/ wall surface is ready to install the Distribution Boards.
5.2.5 Mark the fixing position of the Distribution Boards as per shop drawing, coordinate with
other equipment and services.
5.2.6 For VFD panels, the exact location of the panel and fixing holes to be marked based
on approved shop drawing keeping panel in place and will be fixed in an approved
manner.
5.2.7 Height of the Distribution Boards shall be maintained as per approved shop
drawings so that easy access for termination of cables and other maintenance works
can be carried out.
5.2.8 Suitable knock-out at the top of the DB’s shall be used for Incoming cable entry.
5.2.9 Fix the frame of the DB’s with proper metal plugs and bolts. Ensure the installation
is straight and levelled. If surface mounted, supporting system to comply with
manufacturer’s recommendations.
5.2.10 Connection of cable trays with all Distribution Boards shall be done rigidly with
proper supports.
5.2.11 All knockouts made on the panel covers shall be filed and provided with grommets
to avoid sharp edges and unused knockouts shall be covered.
5.2.12 Termination of cables shall be done using approved cable glands and lugs Glanding
and connections should be done by only competent technicians/electricians.
5.2.13 Organize the cables / wires neatly with cable ties.
5.2.14 Double check the connections by tightening the terminations.
5.2.15 Doors of all SMDB's, DB's are to be earthed with flexible connection.
5.2.16 Clean the termination and breaker cubicles with vacuum cleaner and hand brush to
clean the dust and small metal pieces fallen during cable cutting and terminating
process.
5.2.17 Identification labels of approved type shall be fixed on all SMDB's, DB's.
