STAAL FOUNDATION OPEN RELEASES NAMES OF SUPPORTING
CHARITIES AND CELEBRITIES FOR 2018

JUNE 27, 2018 THUNDER BAY — The Staal Foundation
Open presented by Tbaytel, will be once again supporting
local charities – the Smilezone Foundation, Camp Quality,
and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.
“We have raised over $845,000 in the four years that
we have hosted this event. We are expecting to reach
over $1 million after this year. We wouldn’t be able to
achieve this goal without our sponsors and volunteers
as well as the wonderful support from our community,”
says Ken Boshcoff, Tournament Director.
“We are so pleased to be partnered with such an
amazing organization again. The money we raise each
year goes directly to the children to enrich their lives.
For 60 years we have been doing this and we couldn’t
do it without the continued help of the community,”
says Tom Walters, Executive Officer of George Jeffrey
Children’s Centre.
“We are delighted to be a part of the Staal Foundation
Open for its fifth year and are extremely grateful
to have been chosen again as one of the recipient
charities from this tournament,” said Jody Nesti, Chair,
Board of Directors, Thunder Bay Regional Health
Sciences Foundation. “The funds raised through this
tournament have provided residents of Northwestern
Ontario exceptional cancer care here at home - from
diagnosis to treatment to research. We are thankful for
the ongoing leadership of the Staal Family Foundation
in making this tournament such a success and to our
community, who always step up and provide ongoing
hope to cancer patients and their families.”

The dollars they have contributed over the years have
had an incredible impact on our ability to provide
uplifting and empowering experiences for our campers
and their families. We thank everyone involved in
this event for their efforts and thank the Staal Family
Foundation for its longstanding commitment to
supporting those living with childhood cancer,” said
Ashleigh Quarrell of Camp Quality.
In addition, the Staal Foundation Open, presented by
Tbaytel, officially released the roster of celebrities
attending this year’s event. The list includes NHL Hall of
Famers, past and present NHLers, TSN personalities, the
Staal brothers and Thunder Bay local professionals.
“We are excited as the roster continues to grow and
attract interest of so many celebrities in different areas of
sports. Some of which who will be in attendance this year
include previously announced Bobby Orr, Rick Vaive, and
Bryan Bickell. We are so pleased to have such a high
volume of interest in our event,” says Ken Boshcoff.
Spectators will have the opportunity to take in all the
action during the Fountain Tire Summer Classic and
Scotiabank Celebrity Pro-Am, both taking place at
Whitewater Golf Club on Monday, July 9th, 2018.
