Method Statement

Hydraulic pressure test for swimming pool

The test requirement

The water system shall be tested to ensure it is capable of withstanding an internal water pressure not less
than 11/2 times the maximum pressure to which the installation or relevant part is designed to be subjected
in operation. “So, for water piping system that will operate at 2 bar the test pressure will be 2 x 1.5 = 3 bar.

Hydraulic pressure test procedure

1. Fill the piping and then ‘walk’ the route of the piping under test, continuously visually checking for leaks
and by listening for the sound of escaping air.
2. Release air from all the high points systematically through the system to completely fill it with water.
3. Once the system is full, raise the pressure to the test pressure and verify test pressure using in-situ
pressure gauge.
4. If water pressure drops and/or leaks found repair and redo test until no loss of pressure in the pipe
work system. Pressure drop should be within 5-10%, subjected to consultant’s final confirmation.

5. Leave the system charged and pressurized for the nominated time in the specification. Reading will
be recorded at every interval of 3-6 hours, subjected to designer final inspection.

6. Once the system is proven sound, have the test witnessed if necessary and obtain a signature on the
test certificate.

7. Drain the entire system through full bore cleanouts and clean all dirt pockets and strainers.
Provide adequate air vents and adequate drain points in pipework to allow the system to be purged of air
and to be drained quickly.
