CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

GENERALIZATION:

People say that the youth is the hope of the nation, now the questions that, we believe, is vital and
crucial, is not who the hope of the nation is, but on whether or not the so called hope of this nation
engages itself in the affairs of the state and the community. We surveyed and have interviewed 5
students and have prepared sets of questions for them to answer---on whether they engage themselves
in the affairs of the state or not. Most of the students are aware of the political issues in our government
through reading reading materials or watching the news. But not all are actively engaging themselves
since they are still students who probably think that they don’t play a specific role in the community.
They still don’t feel the burden of the duties and responsibilities that an ordinary citizen has to do for
the state. But of course their parents teach them simple responsibilities that they can do such as
crossing the street through the pedestrian lane, throwing the garbage properly, obeying certain laws
and respectng those in authority. The main responsibility of a student is to study, and as students study
they acquire knowledge and wisdom. This acquired knowledge and wisdom allows them to obtain the
sense of responsibility as a citizen. Most of them believe that our nation isn’t a weak state nor a strong
one, but simply somewhere in the middle. They plan on engaging themselves in civic engagements. This
willingness to support, participate and cooperate in future affairs, gives us enough assurance that
Philippine can still rise through the youth.

CONCLUSION:
The youth has become passive to engaging themselves to the affairs of the state
and does not take it seriously. We could not deny the fact that students arestill
young, naive and immature. However, this doesn’t mean the youth should be
deemed hopeless, for these students continually grow by studying and experience
and through this process of learning they become mature. They start to
understand how vital their role is to the community and develop that burden and
sense of reponsibility to become a true filipino citizen who cares for his or her
nation.
