CULTURAL ACTIVITIES PLANNING MEETING

CHEMAGAMBA HIGH SCHOOL (CHINHOYI)

MINUTES

The meeting began with an opening prayer from a representative from Masiyarwa High. The meeting
then proceeded with members of the house giving self introductions. Mr. Dube then welcomed
everyone present to Chemagamba High in his opening remarks as the A/Head (Host). The HIC Public
Speaking, Mr. Marerwa went on to give the resolutions set by NASH at the National meeting. Key to
these, were that the province was to train teachers for national debate and public speaking
adjudication.

CABS was to sponsor this years edition to the tune of $4 000

First round – Thursday 24 May at Jameson High (Kadoma)

DEBATE STYLE

Juniors to use the Karl Popper style in all their debates.

Seniors to use the World School style in all their debates.

The house then moved for the adoption of the following topics and the order to be used for the
Provincial Competition.

JUNIORS. (Forms 1-4)

1. THBT colonization was a blessing in disguise.

2. THBT ZJC Examinations should be reintroduced.
3. THBT peer influence is more beneficial than harmful.
4. THBT it is better for orphanages to stay in foster homes than in orphanages.
5. THBT the UN has failed its mission.
6. THBT home grown school feeding programs are harmful.
7. THBT the use of mobile phones in schools has brought more harm than good in the learning
environment.
8. THBT Mathematics and English language should be elective subjects in the curriculum.
9. THBT Abortion should be legalized.
SENIORS. (Forms 5-6)

1. THBT trading hours should be restricted.

2. THBT Zimbabwe needs more Engineers than Economists.
3. THBT Zimbabwe benefits from alliances with the East.
4. THBT Mathematics should be a yardstick for University entrance.
5. THBT lesson attendance should be voluntary to learners.
6. THBT Zimbabwe should adopt the One Child policy.
7. This House would lift the ban on the use of cellphones by drivers.
8. THBT free medication in Zimbabwe is discriminatory.
9. THBT Zimbabwe should have its own currency NOW.
10. THBT the payment of lobola leads to the commodification of women.

Having agreed on the topics, the house then moved to the pooling with top 9 junior teams from the
2017 competitions being seeded. It was agreed that 2 top teams from each pool would progress to the
next round.

-The 2018 theme for drama – Values

-Teams to be comprised of a membership of not more than 30
- (no minimum limit)
-Age group ( 13-20 years)
-Vetting to be done prior to competition
-Learners to bring appropriate documentation
-Provincial Competition date 20 September 2018
-Venue Jameson High Kadoma
-National Competition date 4 October

There being no other issues to discuss, the meeting ended with the
HIC Zvimba giving a vote of thanks and a closing prayer from Ms
Siwela.
