Councillor in stalking case

Cr Tonia Dudzik had an interim intervention

Judge’s comments (Jane Rawson)

“Perhaps I just love a story in present tense. Being the mother also rollicks along
in the now, and a lot of it is told in first-person plural. From the very first mo-
ment – ‘Somehow, we get away with the baby’ – I was sucked in to this joyous,
cheeky, life-embracing story of two young girls who steal a child and proceed to
treat it very nicely and have a lovely time. It is full of hilarious sentences and the
tone of the storytelling, the self-righteous, serious attitude of the teenage baby-
thief narrator, is a delight. My congratulations to Anne Casey for writing ‘Being
the mother’, this year’s winner of the Peter Carey Short Story Award.”

Approval to revive heritage building

By Kate Taylor

Lal Lal’s historic railway

station will be restored to its
former glory with the help of
a grant possibly worth close
to three-quarters of a million
dollars.
The station is probably most
famous for its use during the
time of the Lal Lal races on
New Year’s Day – an event
second only to the Mel-
bourne Cup in the late 1800s,
and which saw 30,000 race-
goers attend in its heyday.
Although the station will
not be re-opened to trains, it
will be restored through the
VicTrack program which re-
stores rail assets to a condi-
tion that they can be used by
the community.
As part of the deal, Moora-
bool Shire Council will be re-
quired to hold the head lease
on the site, and a report on
the matter tabled at the June
council meeting explained
how the grant eventuated.

The Reserves were the beneficiary of the senior swinging the axe
and dropping players. The boys continued on their way to the top of
the ladder against a Gallant Lake Wendouree team. With our leading
goal kicker not playing the reserves had to find another way to goal.
Whilst the game was a grind for the whole 4 quarters we finally
broke away in the last quarter to run away 27 point winners.

Offer a sincere THANK YOU
to all at Moorabool Shire in
Supporting our GROWTH

10 Church Street, Bacchus Marsh,

Melbourne 3340 This week we had the official opening of the upgrades to our club rooms.
8/151 Gisborne Rd,
The official opening was attended by members of the Football and Cricket Darley VIC 3340
clubs and also representatives from the Moorabool Shire council who
03 5367 5156 contributed toward the project. Deputy Mayor John Keogh spoke about
the importance of the council supporting local clubs and acknowledging (03) 5367 5680
the vital role they play in bringing our community together and making it
a place where people want to live. The upgrades included an extension to
the clubrooms to include a large outdoor area and bar, updated kitchen,
a new score board, new lighting for the oval and changes to the change
rooms to allow for women’s footy. The works have taken many months
to complete and have cost $750,000. The Moorabool Shire contributed
around $250,000 towards the project. The GB Forestry Cobras would
like to sincerely thank the local council for all of their support in the
project and we hope it allows everyone that uses the club to get a lot more
enjoyment out of the facilities.
Last weekend the PHSA Cobra Junior football teams played in Ballarat
against the Lake Wendouree Lakers. The Baby Black Under 10s braved
the cold and wet conditions and really cracked into their matches. They
had plenty of one percenters, tackles, smothers and shepherds, and had 7a Grant Street 3340
quick ball movements when they had the ball. Plenty of goals and plenty
of fun. The Taco Bill Under 12 reserves played their best game so far for Bacchus Marsh
the season. They should be very proud of their efforts and happy with
100 O’Connell Road, Bacchus Marsh their win. B/Marsh 6-3-39 L/Wendouree 2-1-13. The seniors had a terrific (03) 5367 7000
win in very trying conditions. They tackled hard and won with grunt and
team work. B/Marsh 6-4-40 L/Wendouree 3-1-19. The Watson’s Bulk
Logistics Under 14 Reserves were only half invested in their game and fell
away to a better side B/Marsh 2-1-13 L/Wendouree 6-16-46. The Plant
Hire Solutions Under 16.5 Reserves played an outstanding game. They
moved as a team and played great defensive football. B/Marsh 9-6-60 L/ A big thanks

The Covertite Junior Netballers played well in tough conditions. The

18 Fisken Street, Bacchus B/Marsh 6 L/Wendouree 23. The Under 15 Seniors couldn’t quite get
their groove in their match B/Marsh 15 L/Wendouree 43. The Under 15
Marsh Victoria 3340 Reserves suffered a huge loss B/Marsh 6 L/Wendouree 50. The Under 17
Reserves played a great game and managed to draw the Lakers B/Marsh
23 L/Wendouree 23. The Under 17 Seniors did put in a good effort but it
