Handicap TOILET Standard
Handicap TOILET Standard
This part of the standard refers to publicly accessible buildings, especially those parts of the
building and associated outdoor facilities, intended for use by the public. Publicly accessible
buildings include particularly cultural and educational facilities, sport and recreation facilities,
public health facilities, office, administrative and court buildings, sales facilities and restaurants,
parking lots, garages and toilet facilities. The primary new feature is the attempt to consider the
highly varying requirements of the handicapped and disabled to the greatest extent possible.
The purpose of this standard is to create barrier-free facilities, so that they can be accessed and
used by the handicapped in the generally accepted manner, without particular difficulty and, as
a matter of principle, without the help of a second person.
Specifically new are the sensory requirements (visual, acoustic, tactile) as well as specification of
protection targets.
The standard applies for new buildings. It should also be applied analogously in the planning for
remodeling or renovation.
Please note that specific requirements for workplaces are no longer included in this standard;
they have been incorporated into the new German Ordinance on Workplaces. The application
range for lodging facilities is also excluded.
This part of the standard applies for barrier-free planning, construction and furnishing of
domestic and tenement buildings and their outdoor facilities.
Special requirements for dwellings for wheelchair users are emphasized in this standard and
indicated in the present document with the symbol .
Specifically new are the sensory requirements (visual, acoustic, tactile) as well as specification of
protection targets.
The standard applies for new buildings. It should also be applied analogously in the planning for
remodeling or renovation.
