Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

It is a hands on activity for students, and everyone will have access to a device. If a student needs a device
that requires braille, larger letters, or for it to have the ability to speak to the student or the student speak to
the device, then as the teacher I could be sure to supply that student with that kind of support. The entire
process would be anonymous so no student will feel pressured or embarrassed about their answers.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The instructional activities prior to the SRT activity would be for me to teach the students about verb tenses
and what each of the verb tenses are used for. The students would become familiar with verb tense through
various activities including reading books and identifying verb tenses and writing worksheets to practice
tenses. Once I feel that the students have a solid understanding of verb tenses then I will use the SRT activity
to test their knowledge. When I receive the feedback from Socrative then I will decide which students need
further help with verb tenses, and which students are able to move on to something more advanced using
verb tenses.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐Assess prior knowledge ☐Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☒Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐Test preparation
☐Survey/Poll ☐Discussion starter ☐“Homework” collection ☐Other (please explain):

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:
Students will each be given a device, either a laptop or tablet, to take the online quiz. As the teacher I will
monitor the students to make sure they are staying on task, and to help any of them if they are struggling to
understand the task. The materials needed will be either laptops or tablets for all the students to use at once,
or a 2-3 computers for students to use as a station. The activity should not take any longer than 15-20
minutes to take the given quiz.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐Multiple select ☐True/False ☐Yes/No
☒Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒Yes ☐No
☐Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
I will pre-select correct answers because for the questions I asked there are only right or wrong answers.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After all the students have done the SRT activity (Socrative quiz), I will then evaluate each individual student
using their score. I will determine if students need more help on verb tenses or if they are able to move onto
something more challenging using verb tenses. I will work one on one or in groups with the students that
require more help to get them caught up on verb tenses, while the other students work in stations to
challenge their knowledge of verb tenses.
How will the data be used?
The data collected from this activity will help determine which students have a solid understanding of verb
tenses and which do not. I will use this data to help the students who are struggling with verb tenses and help
grasp a better understanding of tenses. This will be an evaluation of their knowledge, and once I feel like they
understand the information better than they can take the quiz again as an official grade. Parents will be able
to see their children’s evaluations and progress within the class via email, notes, and progress reports. After
evaluating the scores I will work one on one or in groups with the students that require more help to get them
caught up on verb tenses, while the other students work in stations to challenge their knowledge of verb
tenses.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
This activity will help me to figure out what I can do better prior to these types of evaluations to prepare my
students, and to make sure that they better understand what they are being taught.
Reflective Practice:
I think the lesson I have created will help me to better prepare my students, and help them to become more
confident in their test taking skills. Testing is something they will always have to do and the more confident
they are in their test taking abilities, then the easier the process will be for them. This lesson is a way to better
me as a teacher as well as my students.
