Conclusion and Suggestion

5.1. Conclusion

Based on analysis and finding in chapter IV the writer conclude that there are

discrimination and unequal right found in Harper Lee's novel To Kill A Mockingbird. The

novel shows the discrimination through the character, theme and setting. The novel takes a

place in Alabama especially May Comb county where the country live many Negroes. The

country is an agriculture country in which Negro works as a farmer. The interaction of

white and black people produces the discrimination among them. The novel takes a time

especially 1930 till 1933. Then, it was published in 1960. The novel seems natural because

come from child eye. This novel talks about father's education toward his children. The

children must understand right or not. It makes the novel more interesting to be read. The

conclusion from the analysis and finding consists of:

1. Discrimination on American society comes especially to the Negroes. It because many

factors such as stereotype, prejudice, physic or race and social class in the society. Then,

the discrimination including separating areas to live, different right, unfair condition in the

trial and punishment toward the black people.

2. After finding the discrimination in the society, there are four unequal right in Harper

Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird. They are lack of life and security, lack of guarantee in law,

lack of education, and lack of job. Unequal right in the United States refer to Negros.

The novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, is one of many literally works which talk about

discrimination in the society especially toward the Negro. Harper Lee as the writer of To

Kill A Mockingbird portrayed how are discrimination in American society especially for
Negro who felt there are different role and position between black and white In there.

Through the character of the novel, Harper Lee tries to draw the condition of May Comb

county. Then, Atticus especially helps and defends the Negro, Tom Robinson in the case.

However he is failed. But, the condition in May Comb county is naturally changed.

Through the death of Bigger, Tom, people in May Comb know that Tom did nothing to

Materialize. The stereotype and prejudice toward Negroes Step by step being reduced. But,

till this time, the discrimination in American will never be end. Because of the stereotype

and prejudice toward the Negro live in the society.

5.2. Suggestion

Based on conclusion above, the writer walks to point out that making different role

and position between black and white people can affect everyone negatively such as black

people are not able to get their rights for education, right to life and security, right to

guarantee in law, and right to get jobs. Therefore, based on human right, everyone or every

human being should get equality and with dignity no matter what their circumstances which

means nobody should be tortured or treated in an inhuman or degrading way.

There is no country defend discrimination. But, discrimination live in society. In

this case, we have to understand how hard to live in the discrimination. We have to reduce

stereotype and prejudice among society. It will help black people to get their rights.
