Liberals to Give Monash Young Leaders a Platform

A Liberal Nationals Government will ensure more young people from Monash will have the chance
to participate in Youth Parliament to influence and develop legislation.

Member for the South Eastern Metropolitan Region, Inga Peulich MLC announced today that a
Liberal-Nationals Government will provide $120,000 a year for four years to run the Youth
Parliament program -- an increase of $20,000 a year compared to current funding.

Each year, Youth Parliament enables 120 students aged 16 to 25 to undertake leadership training,
team building and other activities.

Under the Daniel Andrews Labor Government fewer young Victorians have had their voice heard
through the Youth Parliament program than under the previous Liberal-Nationals Government.

The Liberal-Nationals commitment for increased funding comes after four years of stagnant
funding from Labor.

Ms Peulich said the funding boost will ensure more young people from Monash including those
with special needs and from disadvantaged backgrounds can participate.

In 2014, the Liberal Nationals also established the YMCA Press Gallery to run alongside Youth
Parliament, providing a newsroom environment to cover the activities of Youth Parliament.

Comments attributable to Member for the South Eastern Metropolitan Region, Inga
Peulich MLC:

“Since its establishment, Youth Parliament has provided the opportunity for 2000 young Victorians
to speak out on issues important to them.”

“This funding boost from the Coalition ensures that even more young people can add their voice
and be part of this strong tradition.”

"While the Andrews Labor Government shelves student engagement, a Liberal-Nationals

Government will focus on providing greater opportunities to young Victorians."
