● Nói xong bấm Next ngay lập tức để tránh mic bị ngắt sau 3s im lặng (sau đó ngay lập tức bấm OK)
● Giữ Oral Fluency, same speed/tone across ALL tasks, nếu vấp cứ làm ngơ nói tiếp, KHÔNG đọc lại chữ vấp, chỉ nghỉ 0.5s
giữa 2 câu
● Nói rõ chữ, monotone (KHÔNG nhấn nhá lên xuống giọng), mở rộng miệng khi nói. Tone ngang ngang, đều và tự tin như

● Thí nghiệm: Chỉ làm duy nhất Speaking, skip tất cả các phần khác
● PTE luôn tặng không 10 điểm by default
● Speaking 90 sẽ push Listening thành 39 điểm và Reading
thành 27 điểm. Chỉ cần Speaking 80+ thì không cần học quá
nhiều cũng gần như sure 65+ all bands.
● Có vẻ tổng số điểm mỗi skill luôn > 90, nên nếu miss một ít vẫn có
thể đạt target (score normalization)
Speaking
● Mình làm mock test B (27 Nov 2017, sau
biến cố PTE chấm pronunciation khó lên)
● Chỉ làm Speaking, Writing skip, Reading
/ Listening chỉ random những câu
multiple-choice, còn lại skip hết.
Personal introduction
● Không tính điểm, nhưng có thể được dùng như sample for speech
recognition of PTE software.
● Nói trong 20s:
○ My name is Mark Zuckerberg. I am 32 years old and I am living in San Francisco.
○ I am a software engineer, working for Facebook - the leading social networking company.
○ I decided to take PTE exam since it is computer based and the test results are available within
a few days.

Read aloud: 6-7 items

● Đọc trong vòng 20s. Ngắt câu nhẹ khi gặp chấm phẩy. Giữ Oral Fluency, đọc vấp cứ làm ngơ đọc tiếp,
gặp từ quá khó thì đọc đại hoặc skip luôn, nhưng KHÔNG được khựng lại mất Oral Fluency.
● Đọc giống robot monotone, rõ chữ, không cảm xúc như Stephen Hawking (nhưng nhanh hơn để kịp

Writing - Hướng dẫn chung
● KHÔNG cần để ý time management vì mỗi task đều được allocate thời gian cố định
● KHÔNG cần dùng từ khủng, KHÔNG lạm dụng cấu trúc câu phức tạp (khác với IELTS)
● Nội dung KHÔNG quá quan trọng
● Dùng collocation khi có thể. Collocation cũng rất có ích cho Reading - Fill in blanks

● Spelling và Grammar cực kì quan trọng và phải là ưu tiên hàng đầu (điểm Vocabulary và Written
Discourse rất ít ảnh hưởng đến điểm Writing). Theo score guide, trong Essay và Summarize spoken
text thì Spelling phải tuyệt đối chính xác:

Writing - Hướng dẫn chung
● Phân bố của điểm Writing (source: PTE Magic facebook):
○ Listening (SST, FTB, Dictation): 55-60/90
○ Reading (FTB R&W): ~20/90
○ Writing (SWT, Essay): 15-25/90
● Không nên quá lo lắng về Writing mà nên dành thời gian học tủ SST, Dictation và luyện FTB R&W.

Nếu bí quá không biết viết gì, có thể dùng luôn câu trong essay prompt:

● Time management là cực kì quan trọng (mỗi task max ~2 phút, ngoại trừ Re-order paragraphs)
● Thứ tự các tasks trong real exam (như trong các slides tiếp theo) khác so với guide của PTE
● Các tasks Multiple-choice khá khó nhưng chiếm ít điểm: không nên tốn quá nhiều thời gian ở đây.
● Fill in the blanks: dùng Grammar, collocation, prepositions để đoán:

● Option có những từ như never, always, sometimes, all… thường là sai.
● Option đúng thường khá dài
● Phương pháp loại trừ: Chọn 1 đáp án đúng từ 5 options sau (không cần biết câu hỏi):

● Time management là cực kì quan trọng. Máy tính KHÔNG cho phép bấm next khi chưa nghe xong
● Ngoài trừ mỗi task Summarize spoken text được allocate 10 phút, phải làm các task khác rất
nhanh (dưới 1 phút, trừ Highlight correct summary có thể dành ra 2-3 phút) để kịp Write from
dictation - là task cuối và cũng quan trọng nhất
● Tương tự Reading, Multiple-choice không quá quan trọng, không cần tốn nhiều thời gian
● Không cần take note (ngoại trừ Summarize spoken text: take note keywords bằng cách type vào
textbox). Tập trung nghe để nắm ý chính
● 30-40/90 điểm Listening là do Speaking contributes (Retell-lecture, Repeat sentence).
Summarize spoken text: 2-3 items
● Rất quan trọng (cộng điểm cho Writing)
● Vừa nghe vừa type keywords / ý chính

Speaking - Read aloud:
○ Có khuynh hướng đọc chậm / ngập ngừng khi gặp từ khó: Phải giữ Oral Fluency. Gặp từ khó quá thì đọc đại hoặc skip luôn
○ Đọc chậm lúc đầu, sau đó lúc gần hết 20s thì đọc quá nhanh: Phải đọc đều cả câu. Câu ngắn khoảng 15-17s, câu dài 20s
○ Đọc nhỏ thì thào, không rõ tiếng, đọc quá nhanh nuốt chữ: Phải mở rộng miệng, đọc to rõ, tự tin / ra vẻ tự tin (như phát thanh viên trên TV),
monotone không có nghĩa là đọc thì thào như ru ngủ. Tip: Trước khi đọc, hít một hơi sâu để có đủ hơi cho cả câu
○ Đọc dính chữ tạo ra âm “sss zzz” => phải mở rộng miệng, đọc to rõ tự tin. Hít thở bằng mũi quá mạnh tạo noise xụt xịt => phải hít thở nhẹ
nhàng như ca sĩ
○ Thất vọng khi Siri / Speech Recognition không recognize được nguyên câu: Đừng lo, vì PTE speech recognition rất khác (predictable content)
● Speaking - Describe image:
○ Có khuynh hướng tập trung quá nhiều vào các keywords / data trên chart: Phải giữ Oral Fluency, nhớ là Content không quá quan trọng. Cho
dù có nhiều keywords / data thì cũng chỉ chọn ra một vài từ để ráp vào template chứ không nói hết (để kết thúc trong 30s)
○ Đọc gần xong vui quá nên tone cao hơn / voice to hơn: Phải monotone, không cảm xúc từ đầu đến cuối
○ “Uhm..”, “uh.. uh...”: Không ậm ừ
● Speaking - Re-tell lecture:
○ Các lỗi thường gặp tương tự Read aloud và Describe image
○ Khi nghe tập trung quá nhiều vào việc nghe hiểu, ghi lại quá nhiều keywords rời rạc mà không kịp thời gian ghi ra 3 câu hoàn chỉnh: Chắc
chắc sẽ ảnh hưởng Oral Fluency khi nói. Phải make sure là ghi ra (chứ không phải nghe được) 3 câu hoàn chỉnh về mặt ngữ pháp và có
chứa các keywords, kể cả 3 câu non-sense cũng được vì Content không quá quan trọng
 Common mistakes
● Writing - Summarize written text:
○ Quên viết hoa đầu câu, quên chấm cuối câu, quên mất là chỉ được viết một câu duy nhất
○ Lạm dụng cấu trúc quá phức tạp, viết quá dài (khoảng 40 - 45 words là đủ rồi)
○ Paraphrase quá nhiều, sai Spelling
● Writing - Write essay:
○ Lạm dụng cấu trúc câu phức tạp, dùng từ quá khủng, không kịp thời gian để check lại: nhớ là PTE không phải IELTS, càng đơn
giản càng tốt, quan trọng là Spelling và Grammar phải chính xác
○ Suy nghĩ quá nhiều về idea để viết: Vô ích, vì Content không quá quan trọng, chỉ cần dùng những từ liên quan đến topic là được
○ Hoảng sợ khi gặp 2 essays: Ít khi gặp 2 essays trong real exam, nhưng nếu gặp thì cũng có thêm 20 phút cho essay thứ 2
● Reading & Listening:
○ Quên không để ý Time management (tốn quá nhiều thời gian vào những phần khó mà ít điểm như Multiple-choice), quên không
nhìn time counting down và số lượng câu hỏi còn lại (ở góc phải phía trên)
○ Time management sai cách: Skip quá nhiều, quá nhanh, đến task cuối còn dư thời gian nhưng không thể quay lại
○ Listening tập trung ghi chép quá nhiều mà không nắm được ý chính: Phần Listening duy nhất cần take note là Summarize
spoken text, và nên type trực tiếp trong answer textbox
○ Write from dictation: Nghe câu quen quen tưởng là câu tủ: Chưa chắc, phải nghe hết, nhanh tay type lại trong answer textbox
(chủ yếu là luyện short-term memory). Nếu không nghe hết thì cũng phải viết một câu hoàn chỉnh để được điểm Grammar
Common mistakes
● Học theo PTE official materials / mainstream methods: sẽ không bao giờ đạt target mà không dùng tricks
● Học theo kiểu IELTS: chỉ áp dụng cho Reading / Listening, còn Speaking / Writing của PTE hoàn toàn là tricks và dễ hơn
IELTS rất nhiều
● Download quá nhiều tài liệu, đọc quá nhiều blogs và không biết bắt đầu ra sao. Nên theo các bước sau:
○ Đọc kĩ và hiểu rõ slides PTEasy này
○ Practice theo các links / sources trong Appendix
○ Thành thạo skill Speaking, biết cách dùng Writing templates, nghe nhiều lần để thuộc các câu tủ Write from dictation,
nhuần nhuyễn Summarize spoken text. Đây là các keys để đạt điểm cao
○ Các phần còn lại trong Reading / Listening chỉ cần nắm vững format rồi chịu khó luyện là được, vì không có gì khác
so với những kì thi tiếng Anh thông thường
● Lười quá không biết khi nào sẽ bắt đầu:
○ Đăng kí học với trung tâm nào cũng được. Kiến thức không có gì mới nhưng lỡ đóng tiền rồi nên sẽ có động lực học
● Scored Test điểm quá thấp:
○ Nhiều khả năng là do technical issues (mic dỏm / Flash issue for browser…). Write from dictation của Scored Test
cũng không nằm trong tủ

● Expected input for model validation:
○ PTE task (Speaking or Writing) to be evaluated
○ Typical answers from normal candidates (either good or bad at English, but typical and normal)
○ In validation, these answers are graded by human as a comparison (human score)
● Expected output:
○ These answers are graded by computer (computer score, calculated based on the machine learning
model that was trained on typical / normal answers)
○ Scoring evaluation from PTE: correlation(computer score, human score) ~ 0.9
○ And PTE claims that their software is good because it grades in a similar way as human does.
● Crack:

○ Computer cannot correctly evaluate unexpected input

○ We can fool the computer by NOT giving typical / normal answers. We also give the computer what
it wants (Oral Fluency, Grammar / Spelling and keywords).
