Most appropriately the students/children are the worst target of these imminent global
food and water deficits. Therefore, a series of lecture-cum-demonstration programme on “Water,
Food and Climate Change” are to be organised among the students to save the mother earth
and all the living beings through raising preparedness essentially covering all categories of
afflicted people, society and all other living beings. Students of today are the soldiers of green
line frontiers of tomorrow. Therefore, appraisal on state of art in domains of water, water related
issues and role of water on food security under changing climate is essential.
India and the world now face one issue so overwhelming, so potentially devastating in
consequence, that nothing less than civilization on our planet is under threat. The teachers must
apprise the students on preventing climate change who inherit the mother Earth as future
citizens. Thus, the future custodians of the planet need to be taught on how to prevent the
global warming through common routine but conscientious efforts. Civil actions must start with
solidarity and dedication but backed by appropriate knowledge. When we accept global
warming is a reality then eventually two components like water scarcity and our food security
come to mind as essential areas for intervention. The lecture programme basing on the recently
held climate change summits at Durban, Cancun and COPs have focused on practical and
feasible options of priority on curbing global warming that will reconcile our water demand and
crop productivity. Comprehensive action plan on conservative initiatives are to be educated at
all levels and India with incentives to adopt and practice now. We must achieve remarkable
reduction in global warming and glorify the Earth Day in April every year to commensurate with
Copenhagan (2009) targets. Practices envisaging 1) Conserve water at home and Institutes, 2)
Strategies for sustainable agriculture with less water, 3) Ensuring optimum water requirement
for all living beings as well as industry, 4) Mitigation options, adoptions and subsidized
availability of water, 5) supply of climate resilient hybrids to ensure higher productivity 6) water
sanitation and health issues, 7) Educate on binding laws, justice and legislation and 8)
Awareness campaign.
203 Objectives of the project – State briefly, clearly and specifically itemized.
Climate change is a truly global challenge. It will impact all ecosystems and human societies,
but in different ways and to different magnitudes. Addressing climate change and related issues
require involvement and action at the local, regional and global level, and education has a
central role to play in understanding, mitigating and adapting to climate change. Global warming
issues are happening now and thus we have to act with urgency. Many environment conscious
organizations in the country must strive to drastically alter the unsustainable resource
consumption habits. It is essential that we also contribute and practice innovative policy
solutions for water and food conservation and adopt environmentally sustainable efforts
worldwide.
Hence, the main objective of the programme is to raise scientific awareness among the students
about climate change, its adverse impact on our eco-system with special reference to water and
food production under changing climate. International peace can only endure on water security.
Awareness campaigns will serve to stimulate further discussion on water security and
underscore the importance of water security in addressing a multitude of challenges: from
health to education, industry to ecosystems, human rights to economic development and
growth; among so many others yet most importantly the food security.
Water scarcity threatens the sustainability of the natural resource base. Then there are the silent
crises, the millions of people deprived of the water they need to live and to sustain their
livelihood. As population increases and development calls for increased allocations of ground
water and surface water for the domestic, agriculture and industrial sectors, the pressure on
water resources intensifies, leading to tensions, conflicts among users, and excessive pressure
on the environment. The increasing stress on freshwater resources and the balance between its
threshold water requirement for all living beings is a serious concern.
Global warming already disrupts millions of lives daily in the forms of destructive weather
patterns and loss of habitat. Hundreds of millions of people may be exposed to famine, water
shortages, extreme weather conditions like drought and irregular precipitation. The proposal
outlines ways and means that we can adopt on economic and judicious water use to optimize
food production. While humankind has the ability to destroy the planet, they can also help
protect and sustain it.
India is a country which is and will continue to be severely impacted by Climate Change
precisely at a time when it is confronted with huge development imperatives. We would,
therefore, expect adequate space we require for accelerated social and economic development,
in order to eradicate widespread poverty, endeavours for ecologically sustainable development
Is obvious.
207 Experience – Mention briefly similar projects undertaken with details such
as title, date of commencement, supporting agencies (s) , outcome,
whether ongoing or completed etc, Please enclose copy/ copies of
sanction letter(s).
The organization has been appointed as Technical Resource Centre (TRC) by DST under
PROBE-Orissa Programme. The programme involves opening PROBE Weather Laboratories
within the school premises in which the students are encouraged to take and record daily
weather observation. From weather data base created by school children, the DST will utilize
the PROBE data for research in universities on the topics aiming a water management, climate
change, disaster mitigation, biodiversity as well as optimization of water resources for life
sustenance in terms of various usage of water and its contribution to food productivity. The
natures of scientific problems proposed to be studies under this project are extreme weather
conditions like cyclone, flood, drought, heat wave, change in moonsoon pattern etc. it is envisages
that better laboratory facilities at secondary level need to be created for reaching higher levels
of achievement in science. WCWS organized numbers of Agrasar Lecture and Demonstration

Water cycle, water availability, utilization under changing demography and coping
with water scarcity.
Water borne pollution and epidemics, access to safe and drinking water at affordable
cost
Water related disasters like flood, drought, pollution, unusual disasters (Uttarakhand)
like cloud burst.
To promote effective integration of climate change education into educational
programmes and school curricula emphasizing judicious use of water
Water sanitation common, easy yet effective procedures, hands on water quality
testing
Food productivity scenario vis-à-vis water requirement
To contribute the establishment of Eco-clubs on climate change education and
practices.

deliberations, participate in interactions and know how on remedial measures more particularly
basing on Copenhagan recommended target on reduction of GHG etc. Demonstrations, few
hands on activities and quizes will also be arranged.
Before organisation of lecture, necessary permission will be obtained from the concerned Circle
Inspector of Schools/Headmasters/Principals of the School and Colleges. As per their
