Horizons 8th Annual
Garage Sale this year is
on Thursday, July 26th,
in the Fellowship Hall @
St. John’s from 7AM – 5PM. As you are
downsizing or cleaning out, please consider
donating items. We accept all items in good
condition, including working appliances or
furniture. Children’s clothing only will be
accepted (NO adult clothing). Donations may be
dropped off on Tuesday, July 24 from Noon –
5PM or Wednesday, July 25 from 9AM – Noon.
All monies raised will be donated to Bright
Horizons for survivors of domestic violence and

CALL PROCESS UPDATE:
The Church Council has voted to nominate a
candidate for the position of Senior Pastor and
will present the candidate to the congregation at
all services the weekend of July 7-8. The
candidate will lead worship and preach at each
of those services. There will be an opportunity
to meet and greet in a forum in the Fellowship
Hall between services (9:45 am) on Sunday,
July 8.
On Sunday, July 15, following the 8:30 am
service, a special congregational meeting will be
conducted to elect a rostered leader of the church
to serve this congregation. The vote will take
place by a paper ballot and time for questions
will be provided.
A two-thirds majority is required for the election
of a rostered leader. There will also be a vote on
the recommended compensation package for the
rostered leader which may be decided by voice
or hand vote, and requires a simple majority. No
other items of business may be conducted at this
meeting.

City, NE with his wife, Shelli and his son, Dylan 21.
Heidi Merritt Mark Nelson His oldest daughter, Torrie, lives in Los Angeles,
Grace Schavee Betty Books CA, with her husband Eland and their daughter, Peat
4. Randy’s youngest daughter, Breanna 19, goes to
MaKyla Books Maggie Merritt
college in Peru, NE. Randy grew up in Southwestern
MN. He went to school for Agri Business and
SNACK AND LUNCH HELPERS eventually began working in Agricultural
Carolyn Swanson Jacquie Samway Communications. He worked at several radio
stations in the upper Midwest as a Farm Broadcaster
Alice Gentzler Kayla Mertz and also worked for the National Association of
Jeff & Cathy Erwin Farm Broadcasters.
Warren & Pat Monson He attended seminary in Berkeley, CA and was
recognized at this year’s Synod Assembly with 10
St. John’s Cleaning Crew years of ordained ministry. Pastor Randy is currently
the Senior Pastor at First Lutheran Church in
ADMINISTRATIVE Nebraska City. He is president of the local chapter of
the United Way, Lead Chaplain of the Nebraska City
Gail Ermels Chaplain’s Association and Cluster Dean for the
Rolling Hills Cluster of Nebraska.
PUBLICITY Shelli grew up in South Sioux City, where her
Midge Hedrick parents still live. Her oldest son, Dustyn 30 and his
wife, Jen, live in Dakota City, NE. Her youngest son,
Dillon 25 currently resides in Bakersfield, CA.
Pastor Randy & Shelli have a passion for mission
work that has led them to take several mission trips
to San Luis, Mexico. This passion has also ignited
them to be very active in the community. Pastor
Randy enjoys watching sports, golfing, running, and
lifting weights. The thing that Randy enjoys most is
spending time with family, whether it be his own
family, his church family or his “family” in Mexico
and sharing the Word of the Lord with them.
