Flat Punches
■ Punch size I for punching and nibbling with forces up to 200 kN,
sheet thickness max. .312".
■ Punch sizes II and III for punching and nibbling corresponding to max.
punching force of the machine in relation to dimensions, sheet thickness
and material strength (see maximum load in the operator's manual).
■ Punch sizes II and III for punching and nibbling corresponding to max.
punching force of the machine in relation to dimensions, sheet thickness
and material strength (see maximum load in the operator's manual).
Strengthened Tools
■ Punch with strengthened shoulder for punching and nibbling high tensile
sheets with punching forces >200 kN and sheet thicknesses >.200".
Extensive tool life trials show that the combination of these characteristics gives a clear increase in tool life, especially when working high tensile stainless steel.
TRUMPF tools are coated using the PVD process. The total coating process is computer-aided and is recored by the computer. This procedure ensures absolutely
uniform quality and individual control, in accordance with the TRUMPF quality control quidelines for punching tools.
1 Punch with flat cutting surface (* long punch can be used as of machine group I)
2 Punch with bevel cutting surface (Whispertool)
Punch length
■ Punches with flat cutting surfaces are available in a short version (34.3’ mm) and a long version which is 3.0 mm longer.
■ The advantages of the longer version include the greater regrind length and faster stroke rate achieved with „active stripper“.
■ All current TRUMPF punch presses of machine group I accept both long and short punches whereas those of machine group H take only punches
of the short version.
■ Rule of thumb for calculating the minimum punch dimension: Punch width = material thickness s.
■ Where the punch dimensions are smaller than the material thickness, we recommend using punches with a guided cutting edge (see Guided punch options).

The QuickSet setting device from TRUMPF provides optimal support for setting up your TRUMPF punching tools.
The QuickSet has been optimized for TRUMPF punching tools, flat and angled (Whisper Tools), of size 1 and 2.
Technical data: Space requirements: 315 x 310 mm · Weight: 24.1 kg · Height: 355 mm
The TRUMPF tooling system enables tools to be set up while production is running, thereby reducing tooling-related downtimes to a minimum. Tool car-
tridges are prepared away from the machine and are quickly and easily loaded and unloaded using the QuickLoad cartridge loading device.
The QuickLoad is designed solely for use with cast and RTC tool cartridges (Order No. 907098 / 937763 / 922937).

Punch for Tapping Tool (No module)
169249 169249
Information:
Tapping refers to the process of producing a thread in a form (extrusion). Unlike thread cutting, no chips are produced,
as the material is displaced (moved) during the forming process and not cut. The tips of the tap teeth are pressed into
the bore or the pre-punched tap hole. The displaced material is thereby squeezed into the gaps of the tool thread, and
forms the core diameter of the formed thread. During displacement the material is subjected to cold strain hardening.
Please note that the tapping tools can be used exclusively on machines with the control option "tapping".

Information:
The illustration shows how the core diameter forms the thread root. Here the thread gap is not completely filled,
however, this does not have any influence on the thread function. 1: Pre-punch diameter
Please note: Special new tapping tools have been developed for the machine group I (TC 2000 R, TC 5000 R etc.), 2: Material movement
which must not be used on other machines. THis also applies the other way around.

Tap
In order to guarantee fast punching times combines with high processing safety, all taps are TiN coated. The
standard tolerance for taps is 6HX. X means an additional voluntary limitation of valid tolerance zone. If
required, taps in the tolerance classes 6E, 6G and 7G can be ordered. They produce a slightly bigger thread
than the standard tolerance 6H. These versions are used when sheets are to be treated after forming the tap
(e.g. coating). Thus, after treatment, an accurate thread is guaranteed.
Advantages of Tapping
• No chips are produced
• Thread surface hardens during forming, resulting in greater strain resistance
• Minimal difference in thread dimensions
• Formed threads are never made too large, a preliminary width of the first tap hit is avoided

Information: With the foil slitting tool, plastic foil can be easily cut without damaging the sheet itself. Only the foil adhesive may
remain visible as a shadow on the sheet surface but can be easily wiped off.
Partial areas on the sheet can be processed as well as areas where, for instance, fittings will later be mounted. The protective foil
remains attached to the rest of the sheet during processing and can be removed after assembly. The tool does not have to be
adjusted to the foil thickness.

therefore differ from conventional punching and forming tools. When using the roller beading tool, the part is formed by moving the sheet between 2 rollers in the punch and die. This tool is
used to produce continuous beads to stiffen large workpieces.

Information:
Beads are often used to stiffen thin sheets. They can also serve as dips for diverting fluids or for running cables.
Beads are nibbled. The smaller the feed, the higher the finish quality will be.
The radii in which the beads can be formed, as well as the minimum gaps between the beads depend on the form of the bead and the geometry of the tool. Crossing beads is not possible.
To avoid distortion and tension of the work piece when beading, the bead height in relation to the sheet thickness should not be too large.
Recommended values for the maximum bead height:
Basically Hmax = 2 x thickness s for s = .040" - .060" Hmax = .125"

Information:
The pad press Multi-Pad puts adhesive pads on strippers, dies and die adapters. The pad is pressed to the tool for
approximately 1-2 minutes to give good adhesion.
Please note that the pressure alone is not enough to make the pads stick properly, the upper side of the tool
should be thoroughly cleaned beforehand. (e.g. with Isopropanol)
Strippers
Dies Size II
Information:
Die Adapters Adhesive pads are .012" thick, self-adhesive and made from extremely durable PE material. These are stuck onto die adapters,
dies size II and strippers and prevent direct contact between tool and sheet when moving the sheet.
A special pad is designed for square dies size II with an edge length of 1.180" to 2.00". For quick and easy affixing of the adhe-
sive pads we recommend the TRUMPF Multi-Pad.
