Renault is a French multinational automobile manufacturer established in 1899 by Louis

Renault and his brothers. During WW I and WW II, Renault produced tanks, which later on served
as the base of tractors. In 1945, the French government nationalizes Renault. Then, Renault was
privatized again in 1996. In May 2005, Carlos Ghosn, who we will mention later in this
presentation, became the chairman and CEO of Renault. Renault is known for its innovative design.
For instance, it created the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to extend the driver’s field of
vision, to warn of a loss of alertness, and to provide electronic co-driving functions, anti-collision
systems or parking aids.

Nissan is one of the well-known car manufacturing company in Japan. It was originally
founded by Masujiro Hashimoto in 1911. Company was first named 快進社 (Kwaishinsha).

The main reason why Mr.Hashimoto wanted to produce car made in Japan is that there are only
imported cars driving on the road, such as Ford and GM. He first named his car DAT, representing
the name of the people who invested in Mr.Hashimoto’s work (Da Kenjiro, Aoyama Rokurou and
Takeuchi Meitarou).

In 1932, DAT became the subsidiary of Tobata Cast Metal and they recall their product name to
DATSUN. Then they renamed themselves again as Nissan Motors in 1934. As you can see, Nissan
didn’t start off with the name “Nissan”.

Nissan have been deeply working on sports cars and luxury cars. For example the “Nissan GT-R” is
one of the most fastest car to be made in Japan.

They are known as 「技術の日産」(Technology of Nissan) all over the world.
