A Semi – Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics

Date: November 28,2017

Time: 7:10 – 8:00
Grade and Section: 10

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, 100% of the students with 85% proficiency wili be
able to:

1. Distinguish that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers,

namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and
multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.
2. Perform the tasks needed in order to use the steps in synthetic division as
well as execute the skill by independent of help.
3. Apply a shortcut method for dividing a polynomial by a simple divisor of the
form rather than long division process

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Synthetic Division

Sub Topic: Synthetic Division of Polynomials

Reference: Application and Analysis in Lesson Design by Katie Malevich/ EdSe

4501 pages 234-235 in the textbook

III. PROCEDURE
A. Daily Routine
i. Prayer
ii. Greetings
iii. Checking of Attendance
iv. Review of the past lesson

B. Lesson Proper
i. Motivation

Before we start our lesson, I prepared here to reveal what is our topic. The game
is called “Jumble Word “. You will assemble the words to guess, what is our topic
all about?
Answer: Synthetic Division

ii. RAISE – UP QUESTION

1. What is Synthetic Division?
2. What are the Steps in Synthetic Division?
3. How does using synthetic division save time and effort??

iii. LESSON PROPER

Synthetic division is an alternative to long division. It can also be used to divide a

polynomial by a possible factor, x−k. However, synthetic division cannot be used
to divide larger polynomials, like quadratics, into another polynomial.

The Synthetic division is another way to divide a polynomial by the binomial and
give the Following Steps.
Step 1: Set up the synthetic division.
Step 2: Bring down the leading coefficient to the bottom row.
Step 3: Multiply c by the value just written on the bottom row.

Step 4: Add the column created in step 3

Step 5: Repeat until done.

iv. APPLICATION

Give the students the second example (on the board or overhead) and
have them try and solve it with their partners.

v. GENERALIZATION
 Students Learned Calculate without writing variables, it uses few
calculations, and it takes significantly less space on paper than
long division. Also, the subtractions in long division are converted
to additions by switching the signs at the very beginning,
preventing sign errors.

VI. EVALUATION
DIRECTION: Arrange the steps of hand and arm massage (A-E)
1. _____ Repeat until done.
2______ Bring down the leading coefficient to the bottom row.
3.______ Add the column created in step 3
4.______ Multiply c by the value just written on the bottom row
5______ Set up the synthetic division

Key to correction: 3. D
1. E 4. C
2. B 5. A

IV. ASSIGNMENT

I. Follow-up Assignment
1. What can you say about the Synthethic Method?
2. Utilize either long division or synthetic division to solve the
following problems What is quotient of 3x³ – 2x² + 3x – 4 and x –
3? Solve it and present the right solution.

II. Advance Assignment

1. What is Ratio?
2. when uses the ratio?
