Venus is a planet that represents femininity and beauty throughout astrology and the history of humankind. According to astronomers, however,
Venus is a totally different place. It has a volcanic structure, is earth-like in size, and its temperature is almost 800 degrees Fahrenheit even

though it is very close to Earth. It is also speculated by scientists that billions of years ago Venus and Earth crashed, and it was these speculations
that inspired Fazıl Say to create a fantasy.

According to Say’s fantasy, there was life on Venus that ended with a meteorite shower, and the composition tells the story about the last minutes
of life on this planet. The bass flute, theremin and cor anglais symbolize the people of Venus while the waterphone is the voice of their fear.
Venus is represented by tritone intervals and strong blasts of the trumpets to represent a meteorite shower.

3. Storm in Jupiter

Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system, symbolizing war in astrology. As we know, an enormous storm rages on Jupiter which started
between 300 and 400 years ago. The powerful storm creates huge volcanic explosions and winds that reach up to 8,000 kilometres per hour. In
this part of the composition, the notes E and C# form the tonality of the piece; they are also the sounds of NASA frequencies. Storm in Jupiter

uses devices like a wind machine to symbolize the storm, tremolo effects of percussive instruments, and the themes of the brass and woodwind
instruments.

For science and humankind alike, one of the most important questions to ask is: 'Are there any life forms in space?' Therefore great attention is
paid to physical, chemical and atmospheric similarities between Earth and other planets. Scientists recently discovered the extrasolar planet
'Gliese 581', the sun of the 'Gliese planetary system'. To date, seven planets have been discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope and are named

Gliese 581 a, b, c, etc. respectively. These planets have structural similarities to Earth, and the composer uses uncommon instruments like the

theremin, waterphone, daxaphone, log drum, HAPI drum, UFO drum, vibratones and sansula for this part of the composition to convey music as
an extraterrestrial civilization.

Supernovas occur when stars explode while containing an extraordinary amount of energy. In the fifth part of the Universe Symphony, the
composer expresses this energy just as it is about to explode. This movement is represented by rhythmic motifs.

6. Dark Matter
In the final part of Universe, the composer creates a contrast by using major tones for nature, minor tones for humankind, and atonality for chaos.
'Dark Matter' is a piece of evidence of the creation of the universe, and today's scientists have come up with the idea of matter called 'God
particle'. In Say’s Universe this is depicted by a number-connected melody related to the expansion of the universe and creating itself out of
nothing. The melody progresses with 1 note, 2 notes, 3 notes, 4 notes, 5 notes, 6 notes, 7 notes and is represented through a symbol. The piece
ends on the note of D which is considered to be the frequency sound of the universe.

Raumes (13,4 Milliarden Lichtjahre) dehnt sich kontinuierlich aus; was mit einem großen Knall begann, dauert bis heute an. Diese
Vergrößerung des Raumes wird durch Erweiterung von Rhythmus und Harmonien symbolisiert, erkennbar z.B. an Taktvergrößerungen wie

3/8+4/8+5/8+6/8+7/8. Die Dur-Tonalität im Allgemeinen symbolisiert die Natur, wohingegen die Molltonalität das menschliche, die Menschheit

Venus versinnbildlicht Weiblichkeit und Schönheit – sowohl in der Astrologie als auch in der allgemeinen Geschichte der Menschheit. Für
Astronomen allerdings ist der Planet, der ungefähr gleich groß ist wie die Erde, mit seiner vulkanischen Oberflächenstruktur und seiner
Temperatur von fast 800 Grad kein Ort, den man mit den Attributen der antiken Göttin Venus in Verbindung bringt. Die Vermutung, dass es

zwischen Venus und der Erde vor Milliarden von Jahren zu einem Zusammenstoß gekommen sein könnte, veranlasste Fazıl Say dazu, dem
zweiten Satz "Venus" eine Fantasie-Vorstellung zu Grunde zu legen.

Im letzten Teil der Universe-Symphonie entsteht ein kontrastreiches Klangerlebnis durch die gleichzeitige Verwendung von Dur-Tonalität (für
Natur stehend), Molltonalität (für alles Menschliche, die Menschheit stehend) und reiner Atonalität (für das Chaos stehend).
“Dark Matter – dunkle Materie” dient als Beweis dafür, dass das Universum geschaffen wurde. Wissenschaftler suchen weiterhin nach dem sog.
„God Particle“, das die Materie zusammen fügt. In Say’s Universe-Symphonie wird dies von einer durch eine bestimmte Zahlenreihe
konstituierten Melodie manifestiert, die wiederum in Verknüpfung mit der Ausdehnung des Universums steht und sich selbst aus dem absoluten
Nichts erschafft.
Das Werk endet auf dem Ton D, der als Klangfrequenz des Universums gilt.
